Mildred Ward
BUCKLEY - Visitation for Mildred W. Ward, 83, of Buckley, will be from 1 p.m. Friday until the 2 p.m. services at St. John's Lutheran Church, Buckley. The Rev. Gunard Heikkila will officiate.
Burial will be in the church cemetery, Buckley.
Memorials may be made to St. John's School library fund.
Mrs. Ward died Wednesday (July 1, 1998) at Heartland Health Care in Paxton.
She was born Sept. 30, 1914, in Buckley, the daughter of Weert and Lydia Luhrsen Janssen.
Her husband, D. Allan Ward, whom she married Sept. 15, 1940, in Buckley, died Nov. 27, 1985.
Surviving are two sisters, Esther Hull of Buckley and and Selda Weerts of St. Anne; and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers and one sister are deceased.
Mrs. Ward was a graduate of Buckley High School. She had worked as a waitress most of her life. Her hobbies were baking cakes, fishing and bowling. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and a former member of its Ladies Aid.

Laura Walwer
Peoria - Laura L. Walwer, 93, formerly of North Missouri Avenue, died at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 1997, at Washington Christian Village in Washington.
Born Jan. 6, 1904, in Buckley to Henry C. and Minna Sprehe Krumwiede, she married Jake F. Walwer on Dec. 9, 1928, in Buckley. He died June 14, 1959, in Peoria.
Two sisters, two brothers, eight half brothers and sisters, and two grand-children also preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Roland of Washington and John of Los Angeles; three brothers, George Krumwiede of Fort Wayne, Ind., Frederick Krumwiede of Buckley and Carl Krumwiede of Onarga; two sisters, Rosa Weber of Onarga and Hilda Ekhoff of Milford; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria and its Quilters Circle.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Remmert Funeral Home, East Peoria. The Rev. Wayne Martin will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens, Peoria.
Memorials may be made to her church or Washington Christian Village.

ROSE ENLOW WALTON
Rose Enlow Walton/Woodland Resident
Mrs. Rosie Enlow Walton , 88, Woodland , died at 3:45 P.M. Tuesday at Watseka Health Care Center in Watseka. 
    Mrs. Walton was born near Watseka on Oct. 17, 1907, the daughter of Harm and Anna Medendorp Boomgarden. She married George Enlow on Dec. 12, 1925, at Kankakee, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1951. She later married
Calvin Walton, and he also precede her in death.
    Mrs. Walton is survived by one daughter, Cora Williams of Woodland; one son and son and daughter -in-law, Harold and Lillian Enlow of Kentland, Ind; one brother, George Boomgarden of Watseka; and three sisters; Rena Alcorn, Grace Boomgarden and Florence Lease , all of Watseka. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, seven great-great -grandchildren; and numerous step-great and step-great-great grandchildren.
    She is preceded in death by her parents, Two brothers and one stepbrother.
    She worked at TRW in Watseka and Howard Industries in Milford for several years and was a homemaker for many years. She enjoyed crocheting and reading.
    Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at the Segur-Knapp funeral home with the Rev. Joe Huges Officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Dell Cemetery, Iroquois.

Funeral services for Mrs. Maude Wheeler, 87, a native of this community, were conducted at 2 pm yesterday at the Barker Funeral Home, with Rev. C. E. Eash, pastor of the Milford Church of the Nazarene officiating. Her death at 3:30 pm Saturday (March 2, 1968) occurred at the home of a son, Lee, with whom she made her home. Burial was in the Prairie Dell cemetery west of Iroquois, IL.
Pallbearers were: Walter Harris, Vernon Bowen, Lawrence Henke, Carl Sinn, Lloyd Allen and John Murray. Mrs. Wheeler was born Nov. 8, 1880 in Milford, the daughter of Benjamin and Florence Martin Harness. Her marriage in Milford on March 16, 1897 was to Thomas Wheeler, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Lee and Sidney of Milford, and Claude of Olympia, WA; two daughters, Mrs. Vicia Hardy of Rossville and Mrs. Marjorie Morecraft of Watseka; 17 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.

GERTIE WEIRINGER
Gertie, Wife of John Weiringer died Aug. 3 aged 39 years and 3 days , leaving her husband, four children, an aged mother, two brothers and many friends to mourn her loss . She was converted in 1898 and was married to John Weiringer
in 1899. She lived a devoted Christian life, and in the end faced the beyond with Christian Triumph , her only regret being for the loved ones she left behind.  Burial in the Prairie Dell Cemetery. (Contributed by Lucy)

Victor Folley, Pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Steger, conducted the services, Interment was in Floral Hill Cem. Hoopeston.
  Born June 15, in Cissna Park, Mrs. Williams had lived in Steger for 18 years. she leaves four sons, Harold of Chicago, Stanley of Moneka, Maxwell of Markham and Norman of Chicago.  A daughter, Mrs. Ethel--------------.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Merle (Babe) Smith, and one sister, Schonnie Wallen. Mr. Whitaker was a Vietnam-era U.S. army Armored Division veteran. Mr. Walters was born 7-23-1924, at Gibson City, a son of Charles F. and Margie Flo Matthews Walters. He married Helen Stroh Tjarks on 10-14-1945 at St. Charles, Mo. She survives. Also surviving are one son, David (Marilyn) Walters, Monticello; one grandson, Nicholas Walters, Monticello; and two brothers, Warren Walters, Saybrook; and Robert Walters, Colfax. His parents preceded him in death. Mr. Walters attended school in Saybrook. He served in the Army during WWII as a Glider Infantry Medic. He was also a retired truck driver. He was a lifetime member and past commander of the Gibson City VFW 6289. He also was a member and past commander of the Saybrook American Legion Post 427. Mr. Walters also belonged to the McLean County 40 et 8. He held various offices while with the 40 et 8 and he was the past Chef DeGare.

Fred L. Whitcomb, 76, a lifelong Paxton resident and businessman died at 10 a.m. Friday 1-3-2003 at his home. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday at Ford-Baier Funeral Home, Paxton, the Rev. Chet Travis officiating. Burial was in Glen Cemetery, Paxton. Visitation was 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Whitcomb was born 2-23-1926 at Paxton, a son of Gorman P. and Vera M. Smith Whitcomb. He married Barbara J. Leonard 10-21-1951, at Rantoul. She died 4-2-1994. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Greg (Cindy) Whitcomb, Terry Whitcomb and Carol (Dennis) Wolken, all of Paxton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson of Paxton; one brother, Jim Whitcomb of Paxton; and three sisters, Jean Terrell of Paxton, Demaris Swan of Watseka and Frieda Hyde of Loda. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Mr. Whitcomb graduated from Paxton High school in 1944 and from Bradley University, Peoria. He was a co-founder of Paxton Ready Mix, in Paxton. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Paxton; the Paxton Masonic Lodge No 416 AF & AM; the Corn Belt Shrine, Peoria; Prospect Chapter No 367 OES; the Paxton Rotary Club; and the Rantoul Moose. He served in the US Navy in WWII and was stationed in the Phillipines.

Sherman Texas - Mildred Ann White, 80, of Sherman, Texas, a native of Clarence, died Tuesday 1-14-2003 at Texoma Medical Center, Denison, Texas. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday at Key Memorial United Methodist Church, Sherman, the Rev. Allen Snider officiating. Burial was in Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Visitation was from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Friday at Waldo Funeral Home, Sherman. Mrs. White was born 8-3-1922 in Clarence, a daughter of Orville W. and Grace Scott Foster. She married Henry M. White on 6-18-1949 in Paxton. He survives. Also surviving are a son, James H. White of Azle, Texas; two daughters, Lynn Marie Tater of Denison and Elaine Ann Fleming of Acton, Texas; two brothers, Clifford Foster and Earl Foster, both of Paxton; three sisters, Orel Lindgren and Doris Ehmen, both of Paxton, and Norma Eubanks of Monticello, Ark.; and four grandchildren. Mrs. White worked at a school cafeteria while living in Illinois., She moved to Sherman in 1982. She was a pink lady at Wilson N. Jones Memorial Hospital and a volunteer for the Key Care Mission at Key Memorial United Methodist Church. She was also active in girl scouts in Illinois. Sibley - The funeral of Selma G. Williams, 72, of Sibley, was at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Sibley, the Rev. Diane Watson officiating. Burial was in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax. Visitation was from 3 - 6 p.m. Sunday at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, with an Eastern Star service at 6 p.m., and for one hour before the service Monday at the church. Mrs. Williams died Friday 1-24-2003 at her winter home in Apache Junction, AZ. She was born 7-25-1930 at Sibley, a daughter of John Andrew and Gertrude Pauline Kuntz Lanz. She married John Randall Williams 4-30-1949 at Petersburg. He died 7-26-2001. Surviving are two sons, John Jay (Katie) Williams of Hartland, Wis., and Scott Randall (Carol) Williams of Melvin; one daughter, Susan Jane (Mike) Rabbitt of St. Louis, Mo.; and seven grandchildren, Rachel Beth, Susanne Rebecca, Katherine Louise and John Andrew Williams, all of Hartland, Wis., and John Joseph, Olan Jennings and Rose Elston Williams, all of Melvin. One daughter, Nancy; one brother, Jimmy; and her parents preceded her in death. Mrs. Williams graduated form Sibley High School in 1947 and attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington. She and her husband farmed east of Sibley for more than 50 years on the Lanz family farm. An active member of the United Methodist Church in Sibley, she was an avid contributor to the annual church bazaar. She was also the Sunday school music director and held numerous offices within the church congreation. Mrs. Williams completed her bachelors degree in 1981 from ISU and went on to finish her masters. She was employed by the Rantoul and Melvin-Sibley school districts as a registered speech pathologist. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She spent many summers with her family at Golden Vista Resort in Apache Junction, AZ. Memorials may be made to her church or to an organization of the donor's choice.

Rena Ellen Wiles, age 86 of Gibson City, formerly of Elliott, died at 1:42 p.m. Wednesday 2-27-2002 at Gibson Area Hospital Annex in Gibson City. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2 at the United Methodist Church in Gibson City with the Reverend Randall Robinson officiating. Burial was at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the Drummer Twp Cemetery, in Gibson City. Visitation was from 5 - 7 p.m. March 1 at the Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City. Pallbearers were Sue Ellen Birkey, Warren Birkey, Ellen Lutz, Roger Dupuis, Tom Lutz and Philip Lutz. Mrs. Wiles was born 9-26-1915 in Ford County a daughter of Thomas H. and Lena E. Todd Knight. She married William Durward Wiles on 11-20-1938 at Elliott. He died 10-1-1975. Survivors are one daughter, Malinda Faye (Philip) Lutz of Monroe, IN; three grandchildren, Tom Lutz, Ellen Lutz and Sue Ellen Birkey and one son-in-law, Warren Birkey of Gibson City. She was preceded in death by one daughter and one sister. Mrs. Wiles was a member of the United Methodist Women, and a Sunday School teacher at the church. Mr. Wiles was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Business and Professional Women. A teacher for over 40 years in the Gibson City - Elliott area, Mrs. Wiles also volunteered at the Gibson Area Hospital Annex and the American Cancer Society. She was a member of the Democrat Women of Ford County and was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Gibson City.

MRS. MAE WEBSTER Dies Suddenly; Last Rites Held Tuesday
Mrs. Sarah Mae Webster, 79, long time resident of Sheldon, died at 10:30 p. m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth hospital in Lafayette, Ind. She had been ill one day but had been in failing health for three years. Born May 1, 1872, at Jamestown, Ohio, she was a daughter of Thomas and Mary Garfield Bishop, and came with her parents to Sheldon when she was eight months old. She was married Sept. 1, 1889 at Sheldon to A. M. Webster who died September 18, 1931. Mrs. Webster was a member of the Sheldon Methodist church, Sheldon Chapter No. 485 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and of the American Legion Auxiliary. Surviving are the following children: Alfred Webster and Mrs. Goldie Thompson of Sheldon, Wesley Webster of Lafayette, Ind., Mrs. ellen Davis of Brook, Ind., Mrs. Vasta Clark of Columbia City, Ind., and Frank Webster of Fairbanks, Texas; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Jacobs of Indianapolis, Ind. Funeral services were conducted form the Methodist church at 2 p. m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, with Rev. John C. Wilson officiating, and assisted by the Rev. Wm. Montgomery, pastor of the Sheldon Presbyterian church. The vocal renditions were beautifully rendered by Mrs. Naomi Darrough. Active pall bearers were Mrs. Webster's grandsons, and the many beautiful floral offerings were carried by her granddaughters, assisted by Mrs. Lillian Messman and Mrs. Fern Nicholson. Internment was made in the Sheldon cemetery.

Obituary of MRS. MARY WALLACE
Mrs. Mary DONOVAN WALLACE was born near Queenstown, Ireland, March 24, 1845, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna G. MERKLE, near Ashkum, July 21, 1923. Mrs. WALLACE came to the United States in 1862 and was married to Peter WALLACE in Joliet, Ill., April 5, 1868. They immediately came to Ashkum, where they resided on what was known as the WALLACE Farm. They lived here for a number of years, and in the spring of 1907 moved to Ashkum. She resided here until December, 1922, when on account of failing health she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Anna G. MERKLE, where she resided until her death. The children left to mourn her death are, Harry, Peter, Mrs. Jennie MERKLE, Carolina, Thomas B., and Mrs. Anna MERKLE, besides 12 grandchildren, and one great grand-daughter, two brothers, John DONOVAN of Chicago, Timothy DONOVAN of Cherokee, Iowa, two sisters, Mrs. Anna FEENEY of Lockport and Mrs. Kate SULLIVAN of Chicago, besides numerous friends and other relatives. Funeral services were held Monday, July 23, 1923 at the Catholic church. Requiem High Mass was sung by Rev. Fr. RIMMELS. Music furnished by L'Erable choir. The out of town relatives who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. MERKLE and son Robert of Claypool, Indiana, Mr. and Mrs. Peter WALLACE of Pekin, Illinois, Timothy DONOVAN of Cherokee, Iowa, Jerry DONOVAN, Dr. and Mrs. Bernard WALLACE, Ellen WALLACE, Catherine WALLACE of Chicago, Charles T. WALLACE, and Mosk WALLACE of Joliet. The many friends of the WALLACE family extend their sincere sympathy.

PETER WALLACE Died Saturday
Another of the pioneer residents of Ashkum passed away Saturday, March 11, 1922, when the death of Mr. Peter WALLACE occurred, at the age of nearly seventy nine years. Peter, son of Thomas and Ester WALLACE, was born at New Bedford, Province of Quebec, Canada, June 29, 1843. When he was but one year old his parents moved to Troy New York, remaining there four years. In 1848 they came west, making the trip by boat, via the Great Lakes, and settled at Joliet, Ill. Here the subject of this sketch grew to young manhood. In 1868 he came to Ashkum and settled upon his brother's farm, southeast of town. The next year in 1869, in April, he returned to Joliet, where he married Miss Mary DONOVAN. He brot[sic] his bride to the prairie home and they continued to reside on this one farm for 40 years. To Mr. and Mrs. WALLACE were born seven children, one of which died in infancy. The other six children, Peter of Pekin, Harry of Colorado, Thomas of Canada, Mrs. George MERKLE of Claypool, Indiana, Caroline of Chicago and Mrs. Chris MERKLE of Danforth, who with their mother survive him. In 1907 Mr. and Mrs. WALLACE left the farm and moved into a home in Ashkum where they have since resided. Since leaving the farm he has never been strong and about one year ago his health began to fail. Last November he rapidly grew worse and the past six weeks he has been bedfast. Diabetis[sic] was the cause of his death. Being such an early settler in Illinois, Mr. Wallace possessed a large number of facts of interest, concerning the days, especially his boyhood days, spent in and near Joliet. He loved to tell of those days and entertained many persons with his reminiscences. He would often tell of the great changes from the time he came here in 1868, until the present time, changes which such hard working pioneers help to bring about, which made this country of such value today. All honor to those sturdy ment who labored and sacrificed that the present generation might enjoy such blessings and comforts as we now have. Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church, of which he had always been a faithful member, Tuesday, March 14, conducted by Fr. RIMMELS. His pall bearers were all old friends and neighbors, Thos. FRUIN , Jules LEMENAGER, Fred TASCHER, W. P. BURNS, Fred IRVIN, W. CLEARY. Burial was in the Ashkum cemetery. Those from a distance attending the funeral besides his children were, Mr. Tim DONOVAN of Cherokee Iowa, Dr. T. B. WALLACE and wife of Chicago. The Journal with many other friend extend their sincere sympathy to the family over the death of their husband and father.

WOLGAMOT, MARY E.
     Died--of consumption, on Saturday, December 13, 1879, Mrs. MARY E. WOLGAMOT. She had been sick for over a year, yet bore her sufferings with great fortitude. She leaves seven children, the youngest of which is but fifteen months old. The funeral services took place at her late residence on Sunday, conducted by Rev. C. O. McCulloch. She was buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

WOLGAMOTT, MARY (wife of G. W.)
     Mrs. MARY WOLGAMOTT, wife of G. W. WOLGAMOTT, and daughter of GRANDPA FISHER, died at her residence last Saturday morning, in this city. Mrs. Wolgamott has been a patient sufferer for over a year. Her funeral took place on Sunday afternoon, remains interred in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Her husband and seven children survive her, the youngest child being less than two years old.

CLIFTON - Among the survivors of Anna West, 91, who died Thursday, is a sister Eda Lanoue of Kankakee. The funeral mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, L'Erable. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the Knapp Funeral Home.
