The last few weeks of her illness were most severe but despite all this she went through it all with grit and determination to get well again but it was not to be.
Mrs. Clark was born near Clifton on August 16, 1858, and at the time of her death was two months and nineteen days past seventy-four years of age.
At the age of 19 years she was united in marriage to Mr. John Hamende, and to this union were born to children, both of whom preceded her in death.
A few years after her husband's death she was united in marriage to Mr. Henry Krumwiede and to this union was born six children, all of whom survive. Following this marriage they started a hotel known as the Clifton House and one which became know to long distances as one of the best hotels in this section.
Mr. and Mrs. Krumwiede became separated and a few years later she was married to Mr. Philip Clark. Together these two continued to operate the Clifton House until the work became too hard for her and they retired from active life.
About three years ago Mr. Clark passed away and since that time she gradually failed in health.
Mrs. Clark, through her business life became known far and wide for her kindness and the courtesies extended to all and it was with sadness that the news of her passing was received.
Mrs. Clark leaves to mourn her departure the following children: Theodore Krumwiede of LaGrange; Lena, Mrs. Lawrence Baron, of Kankakee; Lillie, Mrs. Charles Johnson of Clifton; Lenore, Mrs. Oval Flott of (unreadable); Walter Krumwiede, of LaGrange; Dewey Krumwiede and Lydia, Mrs. Will Bodeman of Lakefiled, Minnesota. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Della Mathy and Mrs. Elizabeth Hamende of Clifton, and Three brothers, Eugene DaCosse (sic) of Chicago and Arthur and Gaston DaCosse. She also leaves nine grandchildren, who with the family will miss the kindly administrations of a mother, sister and grandmother whose every thought was for the welfare of her loved ones.
The funeral services were (unreadable) from St. Peter's Catholic Church, of which she had long been a member at 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning with the Rev. Fr. E. A. Sweeney officiating at the solemn mass. During the service, Mrs. Arthur Hamende of Chebanse, singing with the choir, sang (unreadable) a most beautiful and fitting (unreadable).

MRS SAMUEL S.  (SELPHIRA HARNESS) CORRELL
Mrs. Samuel S. Correll, past 82 years of age, was found dead in bed Sunday morning at her home of South Fourth street. During recent years her health has been far from vigorous, but she has found comfort and care in her son's home. There were no previous symptoms of acute character, and she seemed as well as usual when she retired Saturday evening.
The jury called together by Coroner Skiff found that death was due to natural causes, resulting from the advanced age of Mrs. Correll.
Selphira Harness Correll was the daughter of Michael and Sarah Harness and was born near Milford, of Nov. 29, 1838. The family home was always in this vicinity. On 5th June 1860, she was married to Samuel S. Correll at her home south of Milford. The young folks went to reside on a farm nearby and they made their home until she removed to Watseka in 1904, after her husband's death.
Five children were born to them of these three survive: William Correll of this city, Mrs. Belle Kirby of Greenville, IA and Mrs. Emma Seward residing south of Watseka.
The funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m.and interment was made at the Vennum cemetery south of town. Rev. McVey of the Methodist church in charge. (Contributed by Cheryl)

SAMUEL S. CORRELL
The obituary of the late Samuel S. Correll did not make THE REPUBLICAN in time for last week's issue. It is therefore printed this week.
Samuel S. Correll was born March 2d 1836 in Bedford Co., PA and died near Woodland, July 3rd, 1903.
At the age of 13 he removed with his parents to IL. he was married to Sopira Harness June 5th, 1860. To their union were born five children, one son and four daughters. One daughter died in infancy. Ida, the oldest daughter, died in 1880, at the age of 16.
His aged wife and William Correll and Mrs. Mart Seward of near Woodland, and Mrs. Belle Kirby of Greenville, IA, daughters and son, still survive. Mr. Correll enlisted in the war in 1862. After service of 18 months he was severely wounded at the battle of Mission Ridge. After a few weeks in the hospital, he was discharged and returned to Iroquois county near Milford, in 1867. He purchased a farm southwest of Woodland, where he continued to reside until 1879, moving to Woodland that year. He resided in Woodland only about two years, moving then on a farm about 2 miles southeast of the village on which place he continued to reside until his death.
Mr. Correll was a successful business man; coming to a new and undeveloped country in an early day, without any financial resources, having nothing but his own determined will and strength, he amassed a considerable fortune.
He was a good, straight forward, honest man, whose word was always held to be as good as gold, and at the time of his death held the esteem and respect of all who knew him.
Funeral services were held at his residence, Rev. McOmber officiating. His remains were laid to rest in the Vennum graveyard. Adam Correll, a brother of deceased, who resides at Mount Vernon, IL, was in attendance at the funeral, and all of his surviving children were with him at the time of his death.
