Jerry Gelmers Funeral Monday
Jerry Gelmers, 57, Crescent City farmer, died this morning at 8 o'clock
following a two year's illness.
Funeral services will be from the home at 12:30 Monday and from St. Peter's
Evangelical Lutheran Church at 1 o'clock, with the Rev. H. E. Bruns officiating.
Burial will be at Chatsworth, in charge of the L. B. Segur Co.
Mr. Gelmers was born in Charlotte, Ill., Nov. 25, 1884, a son of Jerry and Lena
Gelmers. He came to this county in 1932.He was married March 31, 1917 to
Angelina Rosenboom, who with a son, Henry, survives.
One brother, John, Chatsworth, also remains.
Emilie Gronewold
BUCKLEY - Emilie J. ''Millie'' Gronewold, 98, of Buckley, died Sunday (April 25,
1999) at the Ford County Nursing Home, Paxton, where she had resided for the
last two years.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m.
services at St. John's Lutheran Church, Buckley. The Rev. Gunard Heikkila will
officiate.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Buckley.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, Buckley.
Ford-Baier Funeral Home, Buckley, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Jan. 18, 1901, in rural Thawville, the daughter of Gustav and Emma
Kietzman Zabel.
Her husband, Ehme W. Gronewold, whom she married Oct. 15, 1926, in Buckley, died
Jan. 6, 1964.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Wilbur E. and Geraldine Gronewold
of Beecher, Herbert F. and Marion Gronewold of Buckley, and Harold W. and Martha
Gronewold of Lansing; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three brothers and five sisters.
Helen Garrelts
BUCKLEY - Helen L. Garrelts, 73, of Buckley, died Wednesday (July 2, 1997) at
Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the Ford-Baier Funeral Home,
Buckley, and from noon Sunday until the 1 p.m. services at St. John's Lutheran
Church, Buckley, where she was a member. The Rev. Gunard Heikkila will
officiate.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Buckley. Pallbearers will be Ron and
Donnie Knuth, Mason Rodgers, Eddie Cleary, Mike Dow and Barry Schlickman.
Honorary pallbearer will be Jeremy Garrelts.
Memorials may be made to St. John's Church, Loda Senior Citizens or a charity of
the donor's choice.
She was born July 18, 1923 at Lake Dalton, Wis., the daughter of Paul and Alma
Krumwiede Heimlich. Her parents are deceased.
She married Carl Knuth in 1940 at Buckley. He died in 1959.
Surviving are her second husband, Robert H. Garrelts, whom she married June 17,
1960 in Buckley; two daughters and four sons, Betty Cleary of Tempe, Ariz.,
Larry Knuth of Lake Iroquois, Loda, Donald Knuth and David Paul Garrelts, both
of Loda, Robert H. Garrelts Jr. of Buckley and Linda Garrelts of Rantoul; 11
grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; and one brother, Willard Heimlich of
Prairie du Sac, Wis.; and one niece.
For a nunmber of years she was employed by Electronics and Switchcraft, both of
Paxton, retiring from Switchcraft in 1984. She was a member of her church's
Ladies Aide.
MRS SARAH GRAY
The many friends of Mrs. Sarah Gray were
shocked to learn of her sudden death last Thursday. It is not known when she
passed away, as her body was found lying on the floor of her home by her little
granddaughter, Jessie Gray, when she came home from school. The aged lady had
not complained of feeling poorly and it is supposed that heart failure was her
cause of death.
Sarah Shultz, daughter of Samuel and Christina Shultz was born near Canton,
Ohio, aug 22, 1852 and departed this life at her home in Milford, Feb 23, 1922.
She was married to Solomon Gray in 1875. To this union were born seven children,
three boys and four girls. The husband, one boy and one girl proceded her in
death. Those life to mourn are Fred of Hoopeston, Roland of Keenesburg, CO.,
Myrtle Shepherd of Austin, IN., Maggie Smith of Amorita, OK., and Christina
Smith of Alvin, ILL., three sisters, Miss Maggie Shultz and Mrs. Emma Scholl of
Watseka, and Mrs Elizabeth Lyman of Martinton, also fourteen grandchildren,
several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Deceased was baptized in infancy into the German Reform Church at Osnaburg,
Ohio.
Mrs. Gray was a possesser of many friends and a splendid neighbor. She was
exceptionally well known in and around Milford and will be missed by a large
number of aquaintences.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church Monday afternoon at one
o'clock, conducted by Rev. Snith, pastor of the Christian Church at Hoopeston.
interement was at Sugar Creek Cemetary.

Gregory Earl Garrett, 48, of Brodhead, Wis., formerly of Piper City, died Friday 12-13-2002 at Meriter Hospital, Madison,
Wisc. after a long illness. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Piper City United Methodist Church. Newcomer Funeral
Home, Brodhead, is assisting the family.
He was born 1-4-1954 in Flora, the son of Elmer and Betty Wells Garrett. He married Carla J. Peters on 6-8-1974 in
Piper City. She survives. Also surviving are a son Gavin, at home; a daughter, Angi, Madison Wis., his parents, Edward and
Betty Gladish; and a sister, Nichole, all of Arcola, a brother, Keith (Lori) Garrett, Tolono; grandmother, Bernice Wells, Gridley;
and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Garrett; a brother, Jeff
Gladish; and grandparents, Leo Bud Wells, Calude (Claude?) and Ruth Gladish, and Jesse and Nellis Garrett.
Greg was raised in central Illinois, attending Piper City and Tolono High School, graduataing in 1972. For many years,
he worked in the cheese making business, starting at Kraft Foods in Champaign and later at Dorman's Cheese, Monroe, Wis.
He also worked at Springs Window Division in Middleton, Wis., for many years. He was a member of the United Methodist
Church in Piper City and was passionate about hunting, fishing, watching the Chicago Bears and spending time with his family.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is established for the family at the Bank of Brodhead.

Aged 70, of Melvin died at 7:05 p.m. Thursday 11-21-2002 at the Manteno Veterans
Home. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Melvin, the Rev. Ronald
Rasmus officiating. Burial was in Melvin Cemetery. Visitation was from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at Lamb Funeral
Home, Gibson City, and from 1 - 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Gudenrath was born 2-4-1932, in Melvin, a son of John J. and Anna DeFries Gudenrath.
He married Marilyn Steinman on 1-9-1977, in Melvin. She survives. Also surviving are three sons,
Richard Gudenrth of Jacksonvile, Fl., Jon Gudenrath of Bloomington and Tony Gudenrath of St. Joseph;
a stepdaughter, Deb Steinman of Bloomington; a stepson, Steven Steinman of Bloomington; five
grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two brothers, Earl Gudenrath of Arcola and George
Gudenrath of Peoria, AZ. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Mr. Gudenrath retired from Central Soya in 1994. He served in the Army during the Korean
War. Mr. Gudenrath was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Melvin, and the National
Parkinson's Association. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6289 of Gibson City
and Post 3664 of Melvin and the American Legion Post 0056 in Bloomington. Memorial contributions

WILLARD H. GALE
The funeral of Willard H. Gale, 75 of Gibson City will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the
Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, the Rev. John Koonce officiating. Burial will
be in the Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be for one hour
before the service Tuesday at the funeral home. He died at 7:25 p.m. Saturday 8-20-1988
at Gibson Manor Nursing Home, Gisosn City. Mr. Gale was born 11-20-1912 in
Dewitt, a son of William and Mintia Jones Gale. He married Pearl West 7-4-1936
at Clinton. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Bill of Easthampton, Mass.; and
Gary of New Lenox; two daughters, Peggy Telfer of New Lenox, and Ann Bode,
of Gibson City; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and eight great-
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, three sisters and one
granddaughter. Mr. Gale farmed in the Gibson City area for many years and was a
resident of Gibson City for 21 years. He had been sexton at Drummer Twp
Cemetery for 20 years.

Mabel T. Gandy, 89, of Gibson City, died at 4:06 p.m. Saturday 11-26-1983 at
Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City. Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday at
the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Gibson City, the Rev. William Smith
officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Miss Gandy
was born 1-20-1894 near Gibson City, a daughter of George and Mary Jane
Biegel Gandy. Survivors include a sister, Rosa Rasmussen of Gibson City; and a
brother, Tony Gandy of Gibson City. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her
in death. Miss Gandy was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
She also was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the

Lillie Gandy, 84, of Gibson City died at 1:45 p.m. yesterday 4-9-1989 at Gibson

Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be from

Tuesday at the Church. She was born 6-28-1904 near Gibson City, a daughter
of Hans and Christine Rasmussen Hansen. She married Joseph Gandy on 10-18-1927
in Gibson City. he died 5-26-1977. Surviving are a son, William J., Sibley; two
daughters, Wilma Douglas, Saybrook, and Margaret Giermann, Bloomington;
11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A great-grandson, two brothers and
four sisters preceded her in death. Mrs. Gandy was a lifelong resident of Gibson
City and a member of Rebekah Lodge of LeRoy, the Progressive Club and the
First Presbyterian Church. She acted as secretary and treasurer of the Sunshine

1-16-1908 in Gibson City, a daughter of William and Sarah Fitzhenry Statsley.
She married Tony Gandy on 6-27-1932 in Fowler, Ind. He survives. Other
survivors include two daughters, Marcia Walker, Hooper, Utah and
Cynthia Dechart, Sandy, Utah; one brother, William Swatsley, Dallas; five
grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A sister preceded her in death. Mrs.
Gandy was a lifelong resident of Gibson City. She was a member of the First
Presbyterian Church of Gibson, the Drummer Chapter of the OES and the Gibson

Mrs. Garard was born 2-20-1914 in DeLand, a daughter of N.O. and Mary E.
Betts Stotts. She married Donald A. Garard on 5-11-1941 in Peoria. He
died 11-26-1962. She is survived by four sons, Donald L. (Kathy) Garard,
Jerry L. Garard and John L. (Scherrill) Garard, all of Gibson City; and Barry L.
(Becki) Garard, Strawn; two daughters, Carol (Alvin) Bode, Lake Park, Ga.; and
Barbara L. (Dick) Brown, Bellflfower; one brother, Lyle (Ruth) Stotts, Bement;
13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and six step-
great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter,
and two brothers. Mrs. Garard had lived in Gibson City since 1945. She taught
school in Bloomington for four years. She was a member of United Methodist
Church, Gibson City. She was the church secretary for 26 years at the First
Christian Church , Gibson City. She was also employed at the former Eisner
Food Store in Gibson City.
PEGGY J. (EATON) GARARD
Peggy J. Garard, 41, of Gibson City died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday 8-6-1991 at Carle
Foundation Hospital, Urbana, where she had been hospitalized since a June 2 accident
near Dewey. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lamb Funeral Home,
Gibson City, the Rev. Patrick W. Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Drummer Twp
Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Garard was born 8-15-1949 at Chicago, a daughter of Harold and Florence
Broche Eaton. She married John L. Garard on 6-28-1968 at Paxton. He survives.
Survivors include her mother, Florence Burton of Gibson City; a son, Joseph L.
Garard of Gibson City; a daughter, Jennifer L. Garard of Gibson City; three brothers,
Earl Dean of Louisville, Ky., and Frank Burton and Robert Eaton both of Gibson City;
and two sisters, Donna J. McDermed of Oak Lawn and Linda Carlton of Paxton.
She was preceded in death by her father and a brother. Mrs. Garard lived in the
Gibson City area for 25 years. She was employed in Gibson City by Electonic Comp.
for 10 years and Central Soya, Inc. for six years. Memorial contributions may be

Geary Gardner, 16, died in a car accident at "Dead Man's Curve" east of Gibson City
5-4-1969, the son of Martin Eugene and Mae Johnson Gardner, Gibson City. He was
a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Gibson City. Surviving are
his parents, a sister Linda Louise; five brothers, Michael, Tim, Gregg, Pat and Sean,

Clarice Gerber, 93, of Gibson City died at 8:50 p.m. Friday 11-8-1991 at the Gibson
Community Hospital, Gibson City. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at

the services Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Gerber was born 11-2-1898 at West
Bend, Iowa, a daughter of Frederick and Adelaide Eckerman Crisman. She married
Arthur H. Gerber on 6-9-1930 at Fisher. He died 1-1-1979. Surviving are one daughter,
Elizabeth Hain of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one son, William A. Gerber of Dixon;
six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five
sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Gerber taught at Fisher High School prior to her
marriage. She was a member of the Gibson City United Methodist Church, the
Gibson Community Hospital Auxiliary and the Gibson City Woman's Club. Memorial

Martha J. Gerth, 41, of Gibson City died at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday 5-13-1997 at Covenant
Medical Center, Urbana. Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at American Lutheran
Church, Gibson City, with the Rev. Wayne Shelksohn officiating. Burial will be in
Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Friday at
Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, and for one hour before the funeral at the church on

by her husband, Roger N. Gerth, Gibson City; two sons, Michael Gerth and Ryan Gerth,
both at home; her father, Onis Baize, Grand Saline, Texas; one brother, Onis Baize, Jr.,
Mackinaw; and two sisters, Reba Ogin, Bloomington; and Kathy Pagan, Fort Myers,
Fla. She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother. Mrs. Gerth was born
1-10-1956 in Gibson City, the daughter of Onis and Mildred Johnston Baize. She
married Roger N. Gerth 5-3-1975 at Gibson City. Mrs. Gerth was a resident of Gibson
City most of her life. She was employed by County Market in Gibson City as a
cake decorator. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church, Gibson City.

Ralph W. Gerth, age 71, a Gibson City resident since 1948, died at 2:07 a.m. Thursday
5-14-1992 at Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City. His funeral was held at 1:30 p.m.
Saturday at American Lutheran Church in Gibson City with the Reverend Dane
Meuschke officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation
was held from 5 - 8 p.m. Friday at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City. Pallbearers
included Junior Mohart, Ellsworth Hall, Martin Meyer, Delmar Boog, Richard Reinhart
and Charles Turner. Mr. Gerth was born 6-20-1920 at Melvin, a son of William A.
and Lena Dickman Gerth. He married Gladys H. Kerr on 7-20-1952 at Gibson City.
She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Roger and Bob, both of Gibson
City; and Kenneth of Downers Grove; one sister, Shirley Kessler of Bella Vista,
Ark., and nine grandchildren. Mr. Gerth was employed for 26 years at Central Soya
Co., Inc. Gibson City, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the American Lutheran
Church and Lutheran Men in Mission. He also was a member of Local 325 of
American Federation of Grain Millers. Memorials may be made to his church, the

Cletus J. Geurts, 68, of Gibson City, a retired blacksmith, died at 8:05 a.m. yesterday
7-30-1993 at Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City. A memorial service will be
at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Gibson City, the Rev.
William Smith officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City.
There will be no visitation. Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, is in charge of arrange-
ments. Mr. Geurts was born 8-20-1924 in Rosholt, SD, a son of Cornelius and Anna
Heckel Geurts. He married Vivian Ludowese 5-25-1948 in Dumont, Minn. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Paul Geurts, Foosland; Daniel Geurts, Buffalo, NY;
and Chris Geurts, Fargo, ND; three daughters, Rebecca Galloway, Yuba City,
Calif.; Abagail Serjaent, Seattle, Wash.; and Margaret Durstin, Murraysville, Pa.;
eight grandchildren; two brothers, Urban Geurts, Rosholt, SD and Nathan Geurts,
Minneapolis; and two sisters, Verona Hartziem, Appleton, Wis., and Joan DuPrey,
Spring Valley, Fla. One sister preceded him in death. Mr. Geurts had been a
blacksmith in Minnesota and had retired. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes
Catholic Church.

Monday, Feb. 12 at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City with the Reverend Brent
Zastrow officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation
was from 5 - 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at the funeral home. Pallbearers included Mike
Schroeder, Ron Knapp, Bob Reiners, Jim Zimmerman, David Stolz and James Gifford.
Mrs. Gifford was born 8-29-1906 at Casey County, KY a daughter of William Clay
and Flora Brown Drostie. She married William H. Gifford, Sr. on 8-19-1925 at

William (Wilma) Gifford, Jr. of Gibson City; one daughter, Reva (James) McGinnis
of Gibson City; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren;
and one brother, Cecil Drostie of Bethelridge, KY. She was preceded in death
by three sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Gifford moved to the Gibson City area in
1937. She worked at the Gibson Area Hospital, later working at the Heritage Manor
Nursing Home, sitting with the elderly. She was a member of the Friendly Circle
Club.
RAYMOND V. GILL
Mr. Raymond V. Gill, 73, a Gibson City druggist for 38 years, died at 5:25 p.m.
Friday 12-12-1975 at the Gibson Community Hospital. His funeral was held at
3 p.m. Sunday Dec 14 at the Lamb Funeral Home, the Rev. Ralph Glose officiating.
Burial was in the Gibson City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Henry Hager,
John Noble, Ralph Schockey and Rodney Brayshaw. Active pallbearers were
Lester Moody, Frank Hunt II, James Taylor, Herb McClure, Dr. Edson Etherton
and Wally Lamb. Gill was born 6-26-1902 in Evanston, a son of Vincent and
Nettie Garrett Gill. He married Lucille McClure in 1931. She died in 1946. He then
married Thelma Pharis on 5-25-1949 at East St. Louis. She died this year. He is
survived by a son David V. Gill, Gibson City. A brother preceded him in death.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Gibson
City Masonic Lodge, a member of the Bloomington Consistory, the Peoria Shrine,
and the Sigma Chi fraternity. He was also a 50-year member and past president
of the Gibson City Lions Club and a founder of the Corn Belt Shrine Club. He
operated the family-owned Rexall Drug Store in Gibson City from 1933 to his
retirement in 1971. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University and graduated from
the Indiana College of Pharmacy in Indianapolis, Ind. in 1927.
THELMA P. (PHARIS) GILL
Mrs. Thelma P. Gill, 69, Gibson City, died at 10:12 a.m. Monday, 8-11-1975 at
Gibson Community Hospital. Her funeral was to have been at 2 p.m. Wednesday
at the Lamb Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Jones and the Rev. Ralph Glose
officiating. Burial was to have been in Gibson City Cemetery. Mrs. Gill was born
2-8-1906 in West Frankfort, the daughter of Edward and Julia Sloan Pharis. She
was married to Raymond V. Gill on 5-22-1949 in East St. Louis. Survivors include
her husband; a stepson, David, Gibson City; two brothers, William, West
Frankfort; Jerry, Manteno; a sister, Mrs. Mary Louise Lampley, McLeansboro; three
nephews and a niece. She was preceded in death by her parents. A resident of
Gibson City since 1949, she and her husband ran the Gill Rexall Drug Store until
they retired several years ago. She was a member of the United Methodist Church,
the Eastern Star, Senior Women's Club, Gibson Hospital Auxiliary, and the Sigma
Kappa sorority at the University of Illinois, Urbana. Memorials may be made to the
United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society. Pallbearers are Frank

FRED M. GILMORE
Fred M. Gilmore, age 81 of Gibson City died at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday 3-26-1996 at his
home in Gibson City. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 29
at the Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City with the Reverend Kathleen Edmisson
officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation was from
6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Lamb Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Anderson
and Lloyd Johnson. Active pallbearers included John Davis, Bob Dierkes, Ted Swanson,
Keith Stark, David Stoltz and Bob Beatty. Mr. Gilmore was born 8-5-1914 at Gibson
City, a son of Craig Merton and Ida Onken Gilmore. He married Dorothea M.
Dierkes on 12-10-1949 at Bloomington and she survives. Also surviving are two
sisters, Josephine Anderson of Gibson City and Wilma Straw of Atlanta, Ga., and
several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother
and one sister. Mr. Gilmore lived in Gibson City all of his life. A farmer, he retired
in 1979. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gibson City, the
Gibson City Moose Lodge and was an avid bowler. He attended the University of
Illinois and was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. Memorials may be made

ARTHUR A. GILMORE
Arthur A. Gilmore, 74, a resident of Bradenton, Florida, formerly of Gibson City,
died at 11:40 p.m. Monday, 8-9-1982 at Brokaw Hospital, Normal. His funeral
will be Thursday Aug 12 at Lamb Funeral Home Gibson City, Dr. Hugh Reynolds
officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 - 9 p.m.
at Lamb Funeral Home Wednesday. Mr. Gilmore was born 12-16-1907 in Gibson City,
a son of Samuel and Elizabeth Boundy Gilmore. He married Rose Schnittker in 1931
at Harpster. She died in 1971. He then married Thelma Dibble in 1978 at Bradenton,
Fla. She survives. He is also survived by one son, Roger of Vallejo, Calif.; three
daughters, Marilyn Kemple of Moline, Verna Hutchcraft of Springfield, and Karen Melzer
of Carlock; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence of
St. Charles, Sam of Elburn, and Virgil of Sugar Grove; two sisters, Grace Bielfeldt
of Sibley and Myrtle Bielfeldt of Anchor. He was preceded in death by one sister.
Mr. Gilmore lived in Bradenton for 14 years. He had farmed in the Gibson City
area for many years. He was a former member of the Gibson City Board of
Education, served on the board of directors of Farmer's Grain, and was a member of
the board of trustees for the First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the
Central Christian Church in Bradenton. Tributes may be made to Youth for Christ
in Moline or the First Presbyterian Church in Gibson City.
SAMUEL A. GILMORE
The body of Samuel A. Gilmore, 58, wealthy Wheaton and Gibson City landowner,
was found at the southeast corner of his farm here last Monday evening, 8-21-1939
at about 7 p.m. by his son, Arthur, who tenants the place known as the old Gilmore
homestead. Mr. Gilmore had been shot through the head and still held in his right
hand a 32 calibre automatic pistol later identified as his own. Mr. Gilmore was
born 7-8-1881 on the Gilmore homestead, two miles north of Gibson City. He was
the son of Albert and Elizabeth Boundy Gilmore. He married Miss Louisa
Swearingen, 9-6-1905 and she died 1-8-1921. On 2-14-1925 he married Mrs. Anna
Clausen Wichmann. Survivors besides his wife; Pearl Wichmann, a step-daughter;
and seven children by his first marriage; Arthur and Mrs. John (Clara) Schroeder
near Gibson City; Mrs. Fred (Grace) Bielfeldt and Mrs. Walter (Myrtle) Bielfeldt
of Anchor, Il.; Clarence, Samuel, Jr. and Virgil all of Wheaton, Il. Four sisters:
Mrs. Oliver Shirley; Mrs. Spencer Swearingen; Mrs. T.C. DeWall and Mrs. Lambert
DeWall all of the Gibson City area. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m.

ELEANOR C. (MILLER) GILMORE
Eleanor C. Gilmore, 67, a lifelong resident of Gibson City, died at 5 a.m. yesterday
5-25-1984 at Gibson Community Hospital. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at
the First Presbyterian Church, Gibson City. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery,
Gibson City. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. Sunday at the Lamb Funeral Home,
Gibson City, and one hour prior to services at the church. She was born 4-7-1917
at Gibson City, a daughter of Fred and Anna Pressler Miller. She married George
C. Gilmore, 6-30-1940 at Gibson City. He died 7-20-1967. Survivors include
three daughters, Phyllis Dukes, Seattle, Wash.; Jean Stark, Dundee, and Ruth Davis,
Gibson City; a sister, Florence Stoker, Merritt Island, Fl.; and six grandchildren.
Mrs. Gilmore taught in the Gibson City school system for 25 years. She was also
owner of the Yarn Barn in Gibson City for four years. She graduated from
Drummer Twp High school in 1935. She attended Millikin University, Decatur,
and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington in 1939. Mrs. Gilmore
was a member of Zeta Tau Sorority, the American Association of University Women
and the Senior Women's Club. She was a founder of the Gibson City chapter of the
Business Professional Women's Club, of which she was a past president. She was
a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Gibson City, where she served as a church
elder. She was head of the Pulpit Committee, and was a past deacon and trustee of
the church.
GENIUS GODSEY
Genius Godsey, 83, of Gibson City died at 6:48 a.m. Tuesday 4-25-2000 at
Ford County Nursing Home, Paxton. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at
Gibson City Pentecostal Church, The Rev. B.E. Koonce and Rev. John Koonce
will officiate. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation
will be from 9 - 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City

was born 4-17-1917 in Somerset, Ky., a son of John Wesley and Zora Elizabeth

sister, Donna Filkin, Wapella; his paternal grandmother, Beulah Kennedy,
Gibson City; and his maternal grandmother, Beulah Batterton, Gibson City. He was
preceded in death by one sister. Mr. Goin was a resident of Gibson City. He was
co-owner of Cleary Brake and Muffler Shop in Gibson City. He was a member
of the First Christian Church, Gibson City.
MARGARET "PEGGY" (ODOM) GOIN
Margaret "Peggy" Dorothea Goin, age 32 of Gibson City died at 3:47 p.m. Sunday
6-12-1994 at Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City. Death was attributed to
natural causes. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lamb Funeral Home
in Gibson City with the Reverend Philip Curran officiating. Burial will be in Drummer
Twp. Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation was from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral

Bunk, Randy Butler and Lyn Zumwalt. Mrs. Goin was born 9-6-1961 at Mount
Carmel, a daughter of Vernon G. and Barbara L. Billingsley Odom. She married
Robert E. Goin on 7-26-1980 in Gibson City and he survives. Other survivors
include two sons, Robert L. II and Benjamin Thomas and one daughter, Emily
Michelle, all at home; her parents, Vernon G. and Barbara Odom of Foosland; two
brothers, Ricky G. Odom and James Michael Odom, both of Indepencence, Mo; two
sisters, Anita L. Faulkner of Rantoul and Melissa A. Odom of Champaign; and
maternal grandparents, Lenneth and Helen Billingsley of Gilman. One brother and
one sister preceded her in death. She was a Gibson City resident fof seven years.
Mrs. Goin was a 1979 graduate of Gibson City High School and was employed by
Niemann Foods in Gibson City as customer service manager for 1-1/2 years.

The funeral of Robert Lee "Bob' Goin, age 70, a resident of Gibson City for 65 years,

been ill. Mr. Goin was born 1-13-1924 at Dahlgren, a son of Harry and Beulah Cross
Goin. He married Evelyn Ileen Wagonseller on 6-25-1944 at Gibson City and she
survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Donna Filkin of Wapella; three sons,
Robert Eugene Goin of Gibson City; Raymond Arthur Goin of Foosland and Ronald
Dean Goin of Rantoul; and eight grandchildren. One daughter, one son and one
brother preceded him in death. Mr. Goin owned and operated Bob's Garage,
Gibson City for 31 years. He retired in 1989. His hobby was collecting antique Fords.

a son of Elijah and Jane Cross Goin. He married Annie Kelley in August 1896

A. Percy Goodrich, age 82 of Gibson City, died at 10:40 p.m. Monday, 3-7-1994 at

Pearl A. Gordon, 91, a resident of the Gibson City area since 1918, died at 1:50 a.m.
yesterday 5-19-1986 at the Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City. Her funeral
will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, the Rev. Mary
Kathryn Pearce officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City.

8-17-1894, near Farmer City, a daughter of Henry and Carrie Lomar Schutte. She
married Oliver Morton Gordon 2-1-1917 at Peoria. He died 11-7-1958. Survivors

CHARLES G. GRAGG
Mr. Gragg was struck by a Wabash freight train at Osman, Il. Sunday evening, 5-26-1912
at the age of 32 yr 11 mo 22 da. He married Miss Edna L. Rankin, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Miles Rankin in Fisher, Il. They lived on a farm near Morton, Il. for a year,
later moving to a farm southeast of Gibson City. In 1910 they moved to a farm near
Osman, Il. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Edith and a large number of
brothers and sisters.

City for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gibson City.

Samantha Marie Granados, the infant daughter of Shannon L. Irvin of Gibson City
and Refugio Granados of Rantoul, died at 5:35 p.m. Monday 6-18-2001 at Provena
Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in
Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City, the Rev. Randall Robinson officiating.
Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, is in charge of arrangements. Survivors, in addition
to her mother and father, include her maternal grandparents, Roger and Teri Ward of
Gibson City and William E. Collins of Bloomington; and her paternal grandmother,

ROBERT D. GREGERSON
Robert D. Gregerson, 52, of rural Gibson City, a farmer and well-known country
western musician, died at 2:35 a.m. yesterday at his home after a long illness. His
funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Gibson City United Methodist Church, the Rev.
Mary Kathryn Pearce officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson
City. Visitation will be from 6 - 9 p.m. tonight at the Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson
City. Mr. Gregerson was born 6-29-1932 at Foosland, a son of Alfred and Gladys
Smith Gregerson. He married Charlene Augstin 2-23-1952 at Heyworth. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Larry, Indianapolis, and Gary, Rockford; a daughter,
Kathy Thorp, Gibson City; two sisters Frances Farmer, Gibson City, and Alfreeda
Miller, Marion; and five grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death. Mr.
Gregerson, who was a lifelong resident of this area, was a member for six years
of the Gibson City Unit School District Board of Education and served a term as
board president. Mr. Gregerson was a member of the Elliott Fire Protection District
Board and former president. He was a pilot and owned a plane. He also was a
member of Gibson City United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the
American Cancer Society.
MILAM B. GREGORY
Milam B. Gregory, 69, of Gibson City died at 11:25 p.m. 7-8-1988 at his home. His
funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, Gibson City, the
Rev. Dick Cates officiating. Burial will be in the Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson
City. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. today at the Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City,
and from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. He was born 2-21-1919 in
Elkton, Ky., a son of Roy and Alma Thompson Gregory. He married Elsie Lack on
12-23-1939 in Elkton, Ky. and she survives. Other survivors include his father,
Elkton, Ky.; four sons, Gene and Todd, both of Gibson City; Lannie, Palm Harbor,
Fl.; and Ronnie, Elliott; three daughters, Brenda Moore, Fairbury; Carolyn Case,
Gibson City; Sherry Bachtold, Moline; three brothers, Harold R., Lewisburg, Ky.;
Doug, Toledo, Ohio; and Billy R., Elkton, Ky.; three sisters, Nonnie Addison and Mary
Gregory, both of Elkton, Ky.; and Margaret Hester, Charlestown, Indiana; 16 grand-
children; and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his mother.
He lived in Gibson City area for 33 years. He farmed until 1972 then worked for the
Gibson City school district for 12 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the
First Baptist Church, Gibson City, where memorials may be made.
R. TODD GREGORY
R. Todd Gregory, age 28 of Gibson City was dead at 6:20 p.m. Saturday 8-11-1990
at the South East Missouri Hospital, Cape Girardeau, Missouri after falling from a
tower on which he was working in Ullin, Illinois. His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City with the Reverend Dick Cates
officiating. Burial will be in the Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation was
held from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers include Joe Garcia
Corrie VanScoyoc; Chad Gregory, David Welborn, Tim Fackler and John Meredith.
He was born 8-12-1961 in Gibson City, a son of Milam and Elsie Lack Gregory. He
married Janet Garcia on 3-25-1985 in El Paso, Texas and she survives. Also surviving
are his mother of Gibson City; three sons, Andre, Jordan and Nicholas, all at home;
three brothers, Gene and Ron, both of Gibson City, and Lannie of Palm Harbor, Fl.;
and three sisters, Brenda Moore of Fairbury; Carolyn Case of Gibson City and Sherry
Bachtold of Moline. His father preceded him in death. Mr. Gregory lived most of
his life in Gibson City where he had been employed by Rhodes Tower Service, Inc.
for the past six years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gibson City.

Lincoln - Trenna A. Gresham, 50, of Lincoln died at 4:42 p.m. Tuesday 2-29-2000 at
Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday

She was born 5-23-1949 in Bloomington, the daughter of Raymond and Carrie Gordon
Gresham. Survivors include two brothers, Gerald (Debbie) Gresham, Atlanta; and
Steven Gresham, Lincoln; and one sister, Sheila (Dennis) Pence, Phoenix, AZ. Other
survivors include one nephew, two nieces and five great-nephews. Her parents preceded
her in death. She was a foster mother to several children through the years. She was
employed at the Lincoln Developmental Center for 27 years. She was a member of the
Jefferson Street Christian Church, Lincoln; Eagle Lodge No 2708, Lincoln; and the
Lincoln Jaycees.
WILMA C. (JARDINE) BORCHERS, GROEN
Wilma C. Groen, 77, died at 11 a.m. yesterday 10-17-1985 at Mercy Hospital, Urbana.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, the Rev.
Mary Kathryn Pearce officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City.

at Elliott, a daughter of John and Cora Davidson Jardine. She married Albert
Borchers on 2-9-1929 at Paxton. He died on 6-17-1950. She then married Eugene P.
Groen on 11-23-1955 at Melvin. He died 11-4-1977. Survivors include one brother,
Warren Jardine, San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by one brother and
one sister. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Elliott. She was a
life-long resident of the Gibson City area.
W.H. "SLIM" GULLETT
W.H. "Slim" Gullett, 84, of Watseka, formerly of Paxton and a dry cleaner there for
45 years, died at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, 1-31-1988 at Watseka Manor Nursing Home. His
funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Knapp - Miller Funeral Home, Paxton, the
Rev. Dean Christianson officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Twp. Cemetery, Gibson
City. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Gullett was born
11-9-1903, near Elliott, a son of William Henry and Hannah Hansen Gullett. He married
Dortha Cottle on 8-17-1935 in Paxton and she survives. Other survivors include one
son, Bill, Bellevue, Neb.; one daughter, Priscilla Hagen, Watseka; six grandchildren; and
four great-grandchildren. Mr. Gullett who lived in Ford County for 81 years, was
reared in Elliott and educated in Gibson City schools. He owned and operated Paxton
Cleaners and Dyers for 45 years. He was mayor of Paxton for 12 years from 1957 -
1969 and was an alderman from 1953 - 1957. Mr. Gullett was a Ford County
deputy sheriff from 1945 - 1970, and assisted the Ford County Coroner while serving
as deputy sheriff. He was a charter member of Lakeview Country Club and served
as treasurer of its Men's Golf Association; member of Paxton Masonic Lodge 416 and
Knights Templars; American Dry Cleaners Association; and the First United Methodist
Church of Paxton. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge.
BESSIE (SCHULTZ) GUY
The Guy's lived in the Sibley community for four years and then moved into Gibson
City, Il. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a
daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Dorothy) Rankin; three sons, Earl Guy of Chicago, Il., Ralph
Guy, Dearborn, Michigan, and Finley Guy, Davenport, Iowa; eight grandchildren,
five great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Ralph Hall, Decatur. She was preceded in
death by her husband and 2 sons and 2 daughters.

MRS. MARY GARFIELD
Milford (CNS)-- Mrs. Mary Louisa Garfield, 86, a longtime area resident,
died at 5 A.M. Sunday ( Jan. 9, 1972) in Hinsdale Hospital at Hinsdale.
She has been a patient a day.
Born in Milford, Jan. 7, 1885, she was the daughter of Eugene and Frances
Fanning Callahan, She was married in 1905 at Milford to Bert Garfield ,
who preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Belmont Methodist Church.
Survivors includes a daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Lyndelle) Breymeyer of
LaGrange, with whom she had resided for the past four years; a son Donald
of Kankakee; a brother, Joseph Callahan of Milford; three grandchildren and
five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Services will be at 2 P.M. Tuesday at the Barker funeral home, with the
Rev. Martin Roper officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends
will be received at the Funeral home after 3 P.M. Monday.
O. LLOYD GARNER
Milford: (CNS) O. Lloyd Garner, 78, formerly of the Woodland area, a
retired farmer, died at 6:40 P.M. yesterday, Sept. 13, 1965, in the Happy
Siesta Nursing Home in Sheldon. He had been a patient there five days.
Prior to that he had been a patient in the Kroll Nursing Home at Watseka one
year.
Born at Milford Jan. 20, 1887, he was a son of David and Roena Scott
Garner.
He was married March 6, 1911, in Milford to Grace Lyon who preceded him
in death in 1962.
Surviving are two brothers Alf of Watseka and Lee of Milford and a
sister, Miss Laura Garner of California. He was preceded in death by his wife and
a brother.
He as a member of the Modern Woodsmen.
Services will be at 2 P.M. Thursday at the Barker Funeral Home with the
Rev. Thomas Linderman officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Creek Chapel
Cemetery. friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday
afternoon and night.
