Mrs. Luhrsen, 88, long time Buckley resident, dies
Mrs. Emma Maria Luhrsen, 88, a lifelong resident of Buckley except for
the past two years, died at the Hattione Jones Nursing home in Onarga, Sunday
morning at 3:30 o'clock. She had entered the nursing home last Wednesday. She
had been in failing health since the beginning of the year.
Born October 1, 1870, at Buckley, she was the daughter of August and Louise
Schneweiss Krumwiede [this name goes back one generation too far: Schneweiss was
the name of her grandmother; her mother's birth name is Sternberg]. Her marriage
was on April 27, 1890, to Ferdinand Luhrsen of Buckley, who died in September
1957.
Surviving are five sons, Adolph of Cissna Park; Richard of Buckley; Alfred of
Buchanan, Mich., Albert of Watseka, with whom she had made her home the past two
years, and Edwin of Phoenix, Ariz; two daughters, Eleanor McMillan of Glendale,
Ariz. and Paulice (Pauline) Rice, South Bend, Ind.; 22 grandchildren; 27
great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. One daughter, Meta
Akeright, died in December, 1957. Mrs. Luhrsen was the last of seven children.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 7, at 1:30 p.m. from the
Kelley Memorial home and at 2:00 p.m. from the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran
Church, with Rev. W.A. Eissfeldt officiating. Burial will be in the church
cemetery. Friends may call at the Kelley Memorial home 7 to 9 o'clock Tuesday
evening.
Mrs. Luhrsen was the oldest member of the Ladies Aid society of the church.

Elmer B. Luhrsen of Arlington Heights
Funeral services for Elmer B. Luhrsen, 84, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at
Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south
of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights. Born Oct 4, 1914, in Elmhurst (error,
should be Melrose Park), he died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at the Lutheran Home
and Service for the Aged, Arlington Heights.
Burial will be private in Elm Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Luhrsen was a member of the Evangel Assembly of God in Hanover Park.
He was the husband of the late Hilda (nee Mahnke) and the late Ruby L. (nee
Koehler), father of Penny (Bob) Salveson of West Chicago, Teena (Kerry) Driggers
of Denver, Colo., Candice (Ronald) Ort of Dallas, Texas (error - should be
Plano), Kim H. (Rita) of Detroit, Mich., Kurt W. (Cathy) of Arlington Heights
and Rex E. (Barbara) of Elk Grove Village; grandfather of 16; great-grandfather
of seven; and brother of Gertrude Koy and Lawrence (Flo) Luhrsen.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Way of
Arlington Heights.

Vernon Lester Luhrsen, son of Martin and Elizabeth (Voehl) Luhrsen, was
born on January 19, 1920 on his parents' farm in Rost Township, Jackson County.
Vernon was baptized on February 17, 1920, and later confirmed in the Lutheran
faith on March 25, 1934 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Rost Township. Vernon
grew up on the family farm and attended country and parochial schools. Following
his education he remained on the farm. Vernon entered the U.S. Army on April 18,
1942 at Fort Cook, Nebraska, and served overseas in Normandy, Northern France,
Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was discharged on November 19, 1945,
at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. Following the service, Vernon shelled corn in the
area. Vernon married Leona Stark on October 25, 1951, at St. Matthews Lutheran
Church in Worthington. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Lakefield
and he continued to shell corn until becoming a mechanic at Farmers Exchange and
later at Lakefield Implement until he retired in 1982. Following retirement he
did small engine repair at his home.
Vernon was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield. He was a 47 year
member of Swen-Rasmussen American Legion Post and a life member of Hanson-Ward
V.F.W. Post of Lakefield.
Vernon passed away on Saturday afternoon, May 1, 1993, at the V.A. Hospital in
Minneapolis. He was 73 years of age.
Vernon is survived by his wife Leona of Lakefield; one daughter Ruth and her
husband Julian Petersen of Slayton; three grandchildren Vicki, David and Pamela;
five great grandchildren Jennifer, Jason, Julie, Brandon and Nicola and two
sisters Arlice Hendricks of Lake Crystal, and Arlene and her husband Charles
Morgan of Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents.
Blessed be his memory.

Mrs. Lease died Thursday (June 24, 1999) at Watseka Health
Care Center.
She was born Jan. 30, 1921 in Plato, the daughter of Harm and
Anna Medendorp Boomgarden.
Her first Husband was Vernon Flessner.
Her second husband, James Lease, who she married Oct.
24, 1947, in Chicago, died March 15, 1976.
Mrs. Lease had worked in a factory .
She was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Watseka.
Surviving are one son, Daniel James Lease of Tennessee; four
daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Waller of Virginia, Sandra Jean and Ronny
Price, Brenda and Frank Jr. Perry, and Dorothy and Richard Page all of
Watseka; Two sisters, Grace Boomgarden and Rena Alcorn, both of Watseka ;
12, Grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren; and
many nieces and nephews.
Three brothers; one daughter; one sister; one step brother;
one grandson; and three granddaughters; are deceased.
She belonged to the VFW in Watseka and enjoyed quilting and

MILFORD MAIL CARRIER DEAD WINFIELD LAIRD
Milford-- (CNS) Beloved by all who knew his cheery smile, Winfield Laird,
61, a rural mail carrier of Milford for 32 years, died at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday,
April 16, 1940 at Iroquois Hospital following an operation. He had
been in ill health several months.
A native of this vicinity, he was born June 30, 1878. He was
married July 4, 1903 to Miss Mae Smith, a year after he started his mail route
here. He retired in 1934.
Surviving are four children, Mrs. Ethel Silberer of Chicago,
Mrs. Hazel Callahan of Milford, Alonzo and Donald , at home; a brother Harry of
Portland, Ore; two sisters , Mrs. Ethel Foley, Los Angeles, and Mrs. Cora
Austin, Emmington, Il.
Funeral Services will be at 2 P.M. Friday at Weyand's funeral
Home , the Rev. Clifton Butler officiating. Burial in Maple Grove

CHARLES W. LYON
Charles Whipple Lyon, son of Abijah and Harriet Haskell Lyon, was born in
Whitefield, Marshall county, Illinois,. Oct. 6th , 1849, and departed this life
February 25th, 1927, being at the time of his death 78 years, 4 months and 19
days old.
C. W. Lyon came to Iroquois County , Illinois in 1876, driving here
with a team and wagon, all the worldly goods he possessed at that time, and
settle in the neighborhood three miles north east of Milford, where he has lived
the remainder of his life.
He was man that loved to stay at home with his
family and was ever happy when the children with their families and the
neighbors came to visit him. He was a very hard working man, the large
family he raised and the fine 320 acre farm he possessed are some of the rewards
of his labor.
He was united in marriage to Margaret Elizabeth Raines on March 14,
1882. To this union was born nine children- five daughters and four sons.
They are Elmer Le Roy, who died in Infancy, Harriet W. wife of T. H.
Callahan, Grace M.. wife of Loyd Garner, Anna D. , wife of Amos Boyd, Mary E.
wife of Horace Rush, Mattie Louise, wife of Fred Slife, Charles Raymond, and
William B. all of Milford, and George W. of Delta Colorado. Besides the
wife and eight children, he leaves to mourn his loss seventeen grand-children,
and one great- grandchild and also a host of neighbors and friends.
He was a kind father and loving husband and

MARGARET RAINES LYON
Large Numbers Gathers to Pay Final Tribute , Burial at the Chapel.
Mrs. Margaret Lyon passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Rush in
Milford last Sunday following an extended illness. In the passing of Mrs. Lyon
the community loses one of its well known citizens and a member of a family long
prominently identified with the history of this locality.
At the Milford Methodist
Episcopal Church Tuesday Afternoon a large number of friends and relatives
gathered to attend the funeral service which was conducted by the reb. Charles
FitzHenry, the pastor , interment was in the Sugar Creek Chapel Cemetery.
Musical numbers were sung by Mrs. S. O. Wright and Mrs. Waneta
Osborn at the piano.
The pall bearers were grandsons of Mrs. Lyon, Elmer, Ray and
Floyd Callahan. Russell Boyd, George Boyd, and Clyde Lyon. There were many
beautiful floral tributes.
The following sketch of the life of Mrs. Lyon was read:
Margaret Elizabeth Raines was born April 4, 1861
in Franklin county , Illlinois and departed this life March 3, 1935. She
spent her childhood days around Kentland In. and Sheldon Il. While
in Kentland she became a member of the Methodist church there.
She was untied in marriage to Charles W. Lyon on March 14,
1882 , who passed away on Feb. 25, 1927.
They started housekeeping on the farm three miles north east of Milford
and she spent the rest of her life there with the exception of a little over a
year that she has lived with her daughter, Mary Rush.
To this union were born nine children, Elmer LeRoy, dying in
infancy. Harriet W. wife of T. H. Callahan, Wm. B. Lyon, Grace, wife of Lloyd
Garner, Anna D. wife of Amos Boyd, Mary Rush and Louise M. Wife of Fred Slife
all of Milford and George W. Lyon of Delta Colorado, and Chas R. Lyon of Peoria.
There are also left to mourn her loss 17 grandchildren and 9 great
grandchildren.
Mrs. Lyon was a home loving woman and was never happier than when her
children and grandchildren were gathered around her. She was a loving wife and
mother and a kind and helpful neighbor and friend. She will be greatly missed by

LINA LYMAN
Miss Lina Lyman passed away on Sunday, November 1st
at Austin, Ind. She will be well remembered in this community having been
born March 15, 1885 near Sugar Creek Chapel east of Milford. She had been
ill for three years and in very serious condition since the 17th of March.
Miss Lyman is survived by a brother, William
P. Lyman of Staockland Township, a sister Mrs. Mary L. Shaver of Crothersville,
IN. She was held in high esteem by all because of her good characteristics
and her good works and will be sadly missed. She was a member of the
Christian church and the Eastern Star and Rebekahs.
The funeral service was held at the Sugar
Creek Chapel Wednesday afternoon in charge of Rev. Harry L Graham, pastor of the
Milford Christian church. The singers were John Fielding, Homer Beall,
George Taylor and Roy Smith of Ambia. Mrs. Smith was the
accompanist. Interment was in the Chapel cemetery.
Among those attending from out of town were
Mrs. L.B. Segur of Watseka, cousin, Mr & Mrs. Mark Sweeny, Mr & Mrs.
Ernest Phelps, Mrs. John Reeder, John Smiley, Mrs. Fern Bechely, Mrs. Della

Colorado's 36th governor and later the nation's energy czar, died Jan.
21 (2002) in Aurora, Colo. No cause of death was reported.
Mr. Love, a Republican, became governor by beating Democratic
incumbent Steve McNochols in 1962.
Regarded as a political moderate during his first term, Mr. Love was
reelected in 1966 and 1970. Until then, no Colorado governor had served
more than six years.
In 1973, he resigned to become President Richard M. Nixon's first
energy czar. Less than a year into the job, he resigned, citing
frustration with the adminsitration over the growing Watergate scandal.
Born on a farm near Gibson City, Ill., Mr. Love moved to Colorado
Springs with his family when he was 3 years old. He received a
bachelor's degree from the University of Denver in 1938 and a law degree
from the same school three years later.
He was a lawyer for the Colorado Public Utilities Commission before
entering the Naval Avaiation Cadet program at the start of Wortld War
II.
The day he was awarded his pilot's wings, he and the former Ann
Daniels, of Colorado Springs, were married. She died in 1999.
Mr. Love served in the Pacific, flying in the Black Cat Squadron, so
named because its planes were black Catalinas assigned to night
missions. He was twice awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Returning to practice law in Colorado Springs, he became interested
in politics. He was president of the El Paso County Young Republicans,
the county executive committee and the state central committee.
In his early gubernatorial career, many legislative veterans of Mr.
Love's party considered him a political novice and tried to bypass him.
Once, he sided with Democrats in a successful drive for a higher state
budget.
In his last term, opposition within his own party faded, but
Republicans criticized him as failing to exert enough leadership. After
leaving the Nixon administration, Mr. Love returned to Colorado and
remained active in law and politics.
His is survived by three children, including Rebecca Love Kourlis,

The Lymans were formerly residents of Watseka. About five years ago they moved
to Crothersville, where Mr. Lyman died tow years later. Since his death, Mrs.
Lyman and her unmarried daughter, Lina had lived together.
Her death was due to Bright's disease and complications. The remains were
accompanied to Milford by the two daughters, Miss Lina and Mrs. Harry Shaver and
the son William who was with the mother during her last illness.
Sarah Freeman was born in Warren County, IN August 9, 1859. When she was five
years of age her parents moved to a farm east of Milford and there she was
reared to womanhood.
She was married to John J. Lyman. Four children were born all of whom
survive. They are William who lives near Milford, Clarence of the state of
Washington, Miss Lina and Mrs. Harry Shaver of Crothersville. She is also
survived by three brothers, James and George Freeman of Milford, David
Freeman of Oregon and a half sister, Mrs. William Weaver of Watseka.
W.H. Weaver and John L. Smiley of Watseka attended the funeral which was
conducted by the pastor of the Christian church of Milford. (Contributed by Mick)
JOHN JACKSON LYMAN
Jack Lyman a former resident of this county died Wednesday of last week at his
home in Austin, IN at the age of 66 years. The remains were shipped
to this city for burial, arriving Friday evening.
A short funeral service was held at Sugar Creek chapel Saturday afternoon,
conducted by H G Bugess, pastor of the Fairview Christian Church. A
service was also held at the Indiana home.
John Jackson Lyman was born in Middleport township near Watseka, May 13,
1844. He grew to manhood and resided in this county for many years.
He was married to Sarah E. Freeman, Nov. 4, 1868 and to them four children were
born, Mrs. Harry Shaver, of Crothersville, IN., Clarence of Pullman,
Washington., William of Stockland and Lina who is at home.
Mr. Lyman enlisted in Company E 76th ILL Infantry Vol in the fall of 62 and was
transferred to Co. K 37th Regiment on Dec. 17, 1863 and served to the close of
the war and was discharged from the service on May 15, 1866 at Houston,
Texas. For many years after the war he resided in Stockland Township
moving to Watseka in 1892 where he has since resided.
Besides his immediate family he is survived by a sister, Mrs. A.J. Metz of Nora,
Nebraska, and a half-brother, Solomon Gray of this township.
Mr. Lyman has been a member of the Christian denomination since 1881 and was
earnest Christian man. He was a splendid citizen and man and his memory
will be held in loving remembrance by his many old friends in this

Lester E. Lammle, age 83 of Gibson City, died at 4 p.m. Thursday, 11-19-1992 at
Gibson Community Hospital Annex. His funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the
American Lutheran Church in Gibson City with the Reverend Dane Meuschke officiating.
Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation was from 5 - 8 p.m.
Sunday at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City and for one hour prior to the service
Monday at the church. Pallbearers were Jim Finefield, Junior Mohart, Lloyd Johnson,
Joe Brooks, Don Bielfeldt and Tom Rhodes. Mr. Lammle was born 12-2-1908 in
Fisher, a son of Gottlieb and Pauline Lutz Lammle. He married Ruth C. Olson on
9-7-1929. She died 10-27-1987. Survivors include one son, Leland of Jacksonville
Beach, Florida; three daughters, Lois Vetter of Sibley; Shirley Clearwater of
Jacksonville Beach, Florida; and Joyce Lange of Gibson City; two brothers, Henry of
Fisher and Ralph of Tempe, AZ; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four
great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Lammle was a retired farmer and owned Lammle Lanes,
Gibson City from 1955 - 1985. He was a member of American Lutheran Church and
Gibson City Moose Lodge 2289. Memorials may be made to his church or to the
Gibson Community Hospital Annex.
Ruth C. Lammle, 77, of Gibson City, a retired bowling co-owner - operator, died
at 5:25 a.m. 10-27-1987 at Gibson Manor, Gibson City. Her funeral was at 10:30 a.m.
Friday at the American Lutheran Church, Gibson City, Rev. Dane Meuschke
officiating. Burial was in the Drummer Twp. Cemetery, Gibson City. Lamb Funeral
Home, Gibson City had charge of arrangements. Mrs. Lammle was born 1-14-1910,
in Clarence, a daughter of Manfred and Mary Olson. She married Lester E. Lammle
on 9-7-1929 and he survives. Other survivors include one son, Leland of
Jacksonville Beach, FL.; three daughters, Lois Vetter, Sibley; Shirley Clearwater,
Jacksonville, Fl.; and Joyce Lange, Gibson City; five brothers, Arthur Olson,
Houston, Tx.; Everett Olson, Texas; Frank Olson, Longwood, Fl.; 12 grandchildren;
21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Three brothers and one
grandson preceded her in death. Mrs. Lammle and her husband owned and
operated Lammle Lanes Bowling Alley in Gibson City for 25 years, retiring in
1980. A resident of Gibson City for 33 years, she was a member of the American
Lutheran Church and the Women of the Moose Lodge.
Ruby F. Lange, age 66 of Gibson City died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday 6-10-1997 at her
home in Gibson City. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Drummer
Twp Cemetery in Gibson City with the Reverend Rebecca Zelensky officiating.
Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery. Visitation was private. Lamb Funeral Home
of Gibson City was in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers were Fred Davis,
Greg Barrow, Gayle Simpsen, Floyd Monical, Terry Lange and Noel Hutchcraft.
Mrs. Lange was born 5-8-1931 at Gibson City a daughter of Harry F. and Katie I.
Hanson Donner. She married George Lange on 11-26-1949 at Gibson City and he
survives. Also surviving are one sister, Mildred Barrow of Gibson City; one
nephew, Greg Barrow of Gibson City; and two nieces Debra Kirkpatrick and Sandra
Davis, both of Gibson City. She was preceded in death by her parents. A life-long
resident of Gibson City, Mrs. Lange was a member of the First Christian Church
and was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 6289. Memorials may be made to
the Gibson Community Hospital.
Barbara L. Lange, 54, died at 10:02 a.m. yesterday 10-17-1985 at Gibson Community
Hospital, Gibson City, of an apparent heart attack. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m.

brothers and one sister. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church,
Gibson City.
Katherine Flynn Lawler, 86, a resident of Gibson Manor, Gibson City, died at
6:20 p.m. Sunday 6-8-1986 at the nursing home. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m.
Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Gibson City, the Rev. William Smith

Eura C. Lee, age 92 of Gilman died at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, 3-19-1996 at the Ford
County Nursing Home in Paxton. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m.
Friday at Lamb-Young Funeral Home in Roberts with the Reverend Jim Small
officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery in Gibson City. Visitation was

Greenville, KY a son of Charles and Lillie Sheldon Lee. He married Helen Maehl
on 9-11-1971 at Roberts and she survives. Other survivors include one son,
Wilbert Lee of Melvin; four daughters, Ima Jean Ping and Oleta Lantz, both
of Gibson City; Anna Seay of Tampa, Florida and Fayetta Roy of Gibson City;
12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three
brothers and two grandchildren. Mr. Lee lived in the Gibson City, Roberts, Melvin,
Onarga and Gilman areas. He worked as a farmer and truck driver for most of his

KY., a daughter of John and Emma Whitmer Danner. She married Charles E. Lee
on 8-29-1925 at Greenville, KY. Survivors include a son, Wilbert Lee of Melvin;
four daughters, ImaJean Ping, Oleta Lantz and Faye Roy, all of Gibson City, and
Anna Mae Seay of Tampa, Fl; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by a brother, two sisters and two grandchildren. Mrs. Lee
had resided in the Gibson City - Fairbury area since 1945. She was a garment
worker in Gibson City and Fairbury for several years. She was a member of the
United Methodist Church of Gibson City. Memorials may be made to her church

married Leslie S. Lee on 7-10-1926 at Louisville. He died 2-22-1979. Surviving
are one son, Leslie S. Lee, Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.; one daughter, Lucille Kerchenfaut,
Portage, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lee had been
a resident of Gibson City for 55 years and a resident of Michigan since 1983.

James C. Lee, age 75 of Gibson City died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday 10-6-1994 at the
Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. His funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday at the

was born 7-23-1919 in Greenville, KY, the son of Charles and Lillie Bell Shelton Lee.
He married Louise Shelton on 11-12-1938 in Greenville, KY. She died 5-20-1990.
He later married Marlie Brandt on 9-8-1991 in Gibson City and she survives. Also
surviving are two sons, James G. Lee of Gibson City and Michael D. Lee of
Thawville; four daughters, Donna J. Potter of Valparaiso, Indiana; LaVonne Veatch
Goodman of Brookline, Massachusetts; Sheryle D. Atkins of Chenoa; and Patricia
G. Cole of Bellflower; one step-son, Merle Brandt of Munfordville, KY; one brother,
Eura of Onarga; 26 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by two brothers. Mr. Lee had lived in the Gibson City and Roberts areas
since 1941. He was a farmer for many years retiring in 1990. He attended the Church
of Christ, Gibson City. Memorials may be made to his church or to Carle Hospice

Orville A. Leenerman, 86, of Charleston, formerly of Gibson City, a retired farmer,
died at noon Wednesday 1-15-1986 at Hilltop Convalescent Center, Charleston.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, Charles
Riggs will officiate. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City.
Visitation will be from 12:30 - 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Leenerman
was born 12-8-1899 at Guthrie, a son of Herman and Lena Rosenaur Leenerman.
He married Stella Hancock on 5-6-1923 at Gibson City. She died 11-26-1975.
Survivors include one brother, Virgil H., Oak Lawn; and two sisters, Alice L.
Murry, Charleston and Erma M. Smith, Manchester, TN. Three sisters preceded
him in death. Mr. Leenerman farmed in the Guthrie - Gibson City area until he
retired. He had lived in Charleston for 2-1/2 years.
Mrs. Stella Leenerman, 79, Gibson City, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday 11-26-1975
at the Gibson Community Hospital. Her funeral was held Saturday at the Lamb
Funeral Home, the Rev. Don Jones officiating. Burial was in the Gibson City
Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ralph Dueringer, V.B. Ernst, Russell Brandt, Gino
Ferri, Warren Brown, and John Johnson. Mrs. Leenerman was born 6-23-1896
in Downs Twp, a daughter of Cornelius and Alletta Fuller Hancock. She married
Orville Leenerman in 1923. She moved to Gibson City form Sibley 4 years ago.
Surviving are her husband and a sister, Mrs. Mae Neirstheimer, Gibson City.
Three sisters preseceded her in death.
Charles W. Leffler, age 71 of Gibson City died at 9:11 p.m. Tuesday 12-12-1995
at Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m.

officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation was

Mr. Leffler was born 3-22-1924 near Arcola a son of Harry and Amelia Schwipps
Leffler. He married Betty Jordan on 9-18-1948 at Gibson City. Survivors include
his wife, Betty K. Leffler of Gibson City; one son, David Leffler of Gibson City;
two daughters, Kathy Doxey and Paula Johnson, both of Champaign; three
grandchildren, Nikki Leffler of Gibson City and Kari and Heather Doxey of
Champaign; one step-grandson, Thad Quinley of Chicago; four sisters, Marge
Clark of Saybrook, LaVern Sullivan of Seymour, Mildred Pankau of Champaign
and Gladys Drollinger of Rantoul; and one brother Ralph Leffler of Champaign.
Mr. Leffler was a member of the United Methodist Church of Gibson City and a
28-year member of the Moose Lodge in Rantoul. He grew up in Bellflower and
actively farmed in the rural Gibson City area since 1948. Memorials can be made to

James F. Leisure, 73, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday 5-14-1980 at Gibson Community
Hospital, Gibson City. His funeral was a 3 p.m. Friday at Lamb Funeral Home, Dr.

and Billy Douglas. Mr. Leisure was born 1-24-1907 in Beda, KY. a son of
Virgil and Betty Nimmo Leisure. He married June Thomas on 6-25-1937 in
Shawneetown. She survives. Also surviving are five sons, Robert, Raymond and
Carroll all of Gibson City; Richard, St. Joseph; and John, Foosland; a daughter,
Betty Tynan, Bloomington; a brother Henry, Harristown; 15 grandchildren; and
two step-grandsons. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr.
Leisure worked for several years in the coal mines in KY. He came to Illinois
in 1939 and had been aresident of Gibson City since 1944. In 1965, he retired
as a driver for M.C. Slater Co. of St. Louis. He then drove the No 1 school bus
for Gibson City Community Unit District for seven years, retiring in 1972. He was a
member of Teamsters Local #26. Memorials may be made to the Methodist

June Leisure, age 75 of Gibson City died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday, 4-6-1997 at her
residence in Gibson City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday,

officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery in Gibson City. Visitation

was born 6-17-1921 at Cambria a daughter of Luther and Nancy Jane Lindsey
Thomas. She married James F. Leisure on 6-25-1937 at Shawneetown. He
died 5-14-1980. Survivors include five sons, Robert Leisure of Gibson City;
Raymond Leisure of Gibson City; Carroll Leisure of Newport, Oregon; Richard
Leisure of St. Joseph and John Leisure of Gibson City; one daughter, Betty
Tynan of Bloomington; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews; one sister, Verna Morgan of Herrin; one niece, Wanda Whitmer
of Sacramento, KY with whom June was raised as a sister; five daughters-in-law,
Carol Ann Leisure, Royce Ann Leisure, Barbara Leisure, Bobbie Leisure, and
Judy Leisure and one son-in-law, Richard Tynan. She was preceded in death
by three sisters, three brothers and three great-grandsons. Mrs. Leisure was an
active member of the United Methodist Church in Gibson City serving as a teacher
and officer of the Friendship Class, head of the Communion Committee for several
years and a volunteer in the church office. She loved to travel with her close
friends and voluntarily helped anyone in any way she could. Memorials may be made
to her church or to the Carle Hospice Unit of Gibson City.

Phyllis E. Leonard, age 74 of Gibson City died at 1:40 p.m. Friday 7-13-2001 at
Gibson Area Hospital in Gibson City. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday at the
American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibson City with the Reverend Wayne
Shelksohn officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation
was from 5 - 8 p.m. July 15 at the Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City and for one
hour before the services on Monday at the church. Honorary pallbearers were
Franklin Butler, Bud Barnes and Don Hiner. Active pallbearers were Steve Kirkpatrick,
Tom Barnes, Tim Barnes, Ken Leonard, Bill Kerchenfaut and Wayne Apperson.
Mrs. Leonard was born 8-16-1926 at Sibley, a daughter of George and Ida Brethorst
Pretzlaff. She married Stanley E. Leonard on 11-30-1946 at Gibson City and he
survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Debra (Mary) Carr of Conyers, GA.,
Vicki (Gail) Reiners of Gibson City and Jodi (Craig) Patton of Springfield; three
sisters, Norene Kirkpatrick of LeRoy, Barbara Marshall of Danvers and Judy
Marshall of Champaign; her mother, Ida Pretzlaff of Gibson City; and eight
grandchildren, Chris and Katie Carr, Jennifer and Michael Reiners and Drew, Stephanie,
Ben and Nick Patton. She was preceded in death by her father. Mrs. Leonard
worked at the Gibson Area Hospital in Gibson City as a nurses aide in the OB
Dept for over 25 years. She was a member of the American Evanagelical Lutheran
Church in Gibson City and the Blackford Club.
John L. Leonard died in Chicago, Il. where he had gone seeking treatment of
stomach cancer. After marriage, they moved to the South Union neighborhood.
After seven years they went to Nebraska, returning after four years to Metamore, Il.,
and finally settled near Gibson City in 1896. In 1907 they moved into town.
Survived by his wife, Mary E. Parminter Leonard and the following children:

Ruth M. Lewis, age 60, a life-long resident of the Gibson City area, died at 9:15 p.m.

Hoye Wolfe. She married Warren M. Lewis on 5-11-1948 in Paxton and he survives.

Loveland, Colorado; a brother Virgil Wolfe, Peoria; two sisters, Mildred Shell,
Mission, TX; and Pat Howard of Beaumont, TX; seven grandchildren and one

The funeral for Tony Lewis, 98, of Rochester, Ind., formerly of Gibson City, will

8:45 p.m. Tuesday 6-23-1987 at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, Culver, Ind.
He was born 8-8-1888 in the Azores Islands, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Luiz.
He married Pearl Burns 8-4-1916 at Paxton. She died in 1938. Survivors
include a son, Ivan Lewis, Lambertsville, NJ; a daughter, Velma Byerline,
Rochester, Ind.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-
great-grandchild. An infant daughter preceded him in death. Mr. Lewis moved to
California in 1906 and to Gibson City in 1916, where he served as grade school
janitor for many years. He moved to Rochester, Ind. in 1978.
Vada S. Lewis, 91, formerly of Gibson City died at 9:40 p.m. Saturday 6-25-1988
at Jackson Heights Nursing Home, Farmer City, where she had been a resident
for the past two yearas. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lamb Funeral
Home, Gibson City, the Rev. Clarence Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Drummer
Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. today at the
funeral home. Mrs. Lewis was born 9-27-1896 in West Liberty, KY., a daughter
of Frank and Sarah Lewis Smith. She married Kelly F. Lewis on 8-1-1914 in West
Liberty. He died 7-9-1976. Surviving are two daughters, Marjorie Ellegard,
Rantoul; and Dorothy Thompson, Monticello; one brother, Arlie Smith, Rankin;
one sister, Velta Schlickman, Gibson City; four grandchildren and 10 great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and one daughter. Mrs.
Lewis was a resident of the Melvin - Sibley - Gibson City area for more than
` 70 years. She was a charter member of the Community Christian Church, Gibson
City, where she served as a deaconess and worker for many years. She was a member
of the Drummer Chapter of the OES of Gibson City and Christian Women's
Fellowship, Gibson City.
Graveside services for Laura L. Lindauer, 94, of Paxton, formerly of Gibosn City

Funeral Home, Gibson City. Mrs. Lindauer died at 8:28 p.m. Wednesday
12-9-1998 at the Ford County Nursing Home, Paxton. She was born 11-29-1904 in
Livingston County, a daughter of Mathias and Anna Kafer. She married Walter
E. Petersen on 8-25-1927 at Jacksonville. He died 12-12-1957. She married Charles
Lindauer in 1959. He died in 1975. Survivors include a son, Ray "Pete" Petersen
of Gibson City; a daughter, Norma Newsome of Alexandria, Va; seven grandchildren;
11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Bowen; and two brothers, William Kafer
and Henry Kafer. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Lindauer lived in the Gibson City and Paxton area most of her life. She
worked at the Fashion Shop in Gibson City for many years. She also worked at
the Paxton Community Hospital. She was a member of the United Methodist Church

The funeral of Gary R. Lindsey, age 42 of Kingman, AZ, formerly of Gibson City
was at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City. The Reverend
Dan Hill officiated with burial in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation
was from 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers included Rick
Tomlinson, Danny Tomlinson, Bobby Case, Ron Carpenter, Dan Boyd and Denny
Houser. Mr. Lindsey was pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m. Sunday 7-10-1994 after a
pedestrian - auto accident on State Route 68 in Mohave County, AZ, east of
Kingman. State police said Mr. Lindsey was apparently walking in the middle of the
highway when he was struck by an automobile. He was born 11-1-1951 at
Loudon, TN, a son of Roy E. and Viola L. Leffew Lindsey. Survivors include
his mother of Gibson City; one daughter, Amy Lindsey of Gibson City; one son,
Joshua Lindsey of Gibson City; one sister, Brenda Baker of Normal; and two
brothers, Al Lindsey of Pontiac and Ronnie Lindsey of Lake Havasu City, AZ.
His father preceded him in death. Mr. Lindsey, who was a masonry worker, was
a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Loudon, TN. He moved to AZ five years ago.

M. Genevieve Little, 78, of Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Gibson City, died
Saturday 4-8-1995 at the Life Care Center, Overland Park, Kan. Her funeral will be

officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation
will be two hours before the service at the funeral home, Tuesday. Mrs. Little
was born 8-12-1916 in Gibson City, the daughter of Harry and Ethel Goodrich
Shirley. She is survived by one son, Ernest G. Little, Colorado Springs, Colo.;
four daughters, Janet Miller, Louisville, Ky.; Rozanna Vice, Houston, TX.;
Chrystie Keenan, Mayesville,KY.; and Connie Little, Lake Waukomis, MO.; five
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one
daughter. Mrs. Little also lived in Boswell, Ind. and Mission, TX before moving
to the Kansas City area. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Mission

Mrs. Little was born 10-15-1892, in Sweden. Her husband, Harry Glen Little
died in 1944. Survivors include one daughter, Jean Little Dennis, Pleasant Hill,
Calif.; two sisters, Doris Carroll, Lake Comanche, Calif., and Ruby Icenogle, Lake
Havasu City, AZ.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. One son
preceded her in death. Mrs. Little came to the United States with her mother
when she was 4 years old.

Oscar R. Long, 94, of Gibson City died at 8:27 p.m. Saturday 12-25-1999 at
Gibson Area Hospital, Gibson City. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday
at First Christian Church in Gibson City. The Rev. Rebecca Zelensky will
officiate. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation

9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Mr. Long was born 6-26-1905 at
Lancaster, KY., a son of Fountain D. and Maggie Hendricks Long. He married
Shirley Marie Shunk on 5-20-1930 in Atwood and she survives. Also surviving
are three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Thelma Kracht and
Clara Crawford, both of Villa Grove. He was preceded in death by his son,
William "Bill" Long, a grandson, two brothers and three sisters. Mr. Long farmed
in Bement in his early years. He owned and operated The Spot, Lucky 13 Drive-In,
and the Dog N Suds. He also owned a motel in Gibson City. Mr. Long was a
member of the First Christian Church in Gibson City. Memorials may be made

Charles William "Bill" Long, age 67 of Gibson City died Thursday 10-22-1998 at
Newton, Iowa. Memorial services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, at the
First Christian Church in Gibson City with the Reverend Rebecca Zelensky
officiating. Visitation was held immediately following the service at the church.

Mr. Long was born 2-10-1931 at Villa Grove a son of Oscar R. and Shirley M.
Shunk Long. He married Karen A. Knapp on 5-29-1960 at Gibson City.
Survivors include his wife, Karen A. Long of Gibson City; his parents, Oscar
and Shirley Long of Gibson City; one son, Dan (Kelly) Long of Rantoul; two
daughters, Nan (David) Clements of Gibson City and Carrie (Todd) Stensrud of
Glenwood, MN. and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son,
Patrick Long. Mr. Long worked at the Gibson Community Hospital until retiring
in 1992. A member of the First Christian Church of Gibson City, Mr. Long was
also a member of the Gibson City Masonic Lodge, Bloomington Consistory, The
Mohammed Shrine and the Corn Belt Shrine. Memorials may be made to the

Charles Patrick Long, age 33 of Gibson City died at 1:23 p.m. Saturday 12-16-1995
at his home in Gibson City. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church

was born 10-20-1962 at Gibson City a son of Bill and Karen Knapp Long.

Dan Long of Rantoul; his maternal grandmother, Marion Knapp of Gibson City
and his paternal grandparents, Oscar and Shirley Long of Gibson City. He was
preceded in death by his maternal grandfather. Mr. Long was a resident of Gibson
City for all of his life. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Gibson
City and was a 1980 graduate of Gibson City High School. He was employed

of Ryan and Martha Junker Klatt. She married William Loy on 6-26-1928 at Washburn.

of Slatington, PA; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded
in death by her parents and one sister. Mrs. Loy was a member of the First
Christian Church in Washburn and Gibson City since 1912. She was a graduate of
Bradley Polytechnic Institute, now known as Bradley University. Mrs. Loy
taught one year in Medicine Lodge, Kansas before coming to Gibson City where
she taught home economics from 1920 - 1931 at Drummer Twp High School. She
was also a member of the CFW/Christian Women's Fellowship. Memorials may

She was born 8-17-1911 at Cooksville, a daughter of William Frederick and Minnie
Zabel Wissmiller. She married the Rev. Raymond M. Luedde on 8-23-1943 at
Gibson City. He died 9-10-1970. Survivors include a son, Arnold L. Luedde of
Camdenton, Mo.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother,
Clarence Wissmiller of Henry. Mrs. Luedde was a homemaker. She resided at
Gibson City since 1943. She attended Brown's Business College at Bloomington
for two years. She was a member of the Community Christian Church at Gibson

Ruth C. Lammle, 77, of Gibson City, a retired bowling co-owner - operator, died

in Clarence, a daughter of Manfred and Mary Olson. She married Lester E. Lammle

Jacksonville, Fl.; and Joyce Lange, Gibson City; five brothers, Arthur Olson,

21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Three brothers and one
grandson preceded her in death. Mrs. Lammle and her husband owned and
operated Lammle Lanes Bowling Alley in Gibson City for 25 years, retiring in
1980. A resident of Gibson City for 33 years, she was a member of the American
Lutheran Church and the Women of the Moose Lodge.
Ruby F. Lange, age 66 of Gibson City died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday 6-10-1997 at her
home in Gibson City. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, at Drummer
Twp Cemetery in Gibson City with the Reverend Rebecca Zelensky officiating.

Mrs. Lange was born 5-8-1931 at Gibson City a daughter of Harry F. and Katie I.
Hanson Donner. She married George Lange on 11-26-1949 at Gibson City and he

nephew, Greg Barrow of Gibson City; and two nieces Debra Kirkpatrick and Sandra
Davis, both of Gibson City. She was preceded in death by her parents. A life-long
resident of Gibson City, Mrs. Lange was a member of the First Christian Church

had resided in the Gibson City - Fairbury area since 1945. She was a garment
worker in Gibson City and Fairbury for several years. She was a member of the

married Leslie S. Lee on 7-10-1926 at Louisville. He died 2-22-1979. Surviving
are one son, Leslie S. Lee, Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.; one daughter, Lucille Kerchenfaut,
Portage, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lee had been
a resident of Gibson City for 55 years and a resident of Michigan since 1983.

James C. Lee, age 75 of Gibson City died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday 10-6-1994 at the
Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. His funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday at the

He later married Marlie Brandt on 9-8-1991 in Gibson City and she survives. Also
surviving are two sons, James G. Lee of Gibson City and Michael D. Lee of
Thawville; four daughters, Donna J. Potter of Valparaiso, Indiana; LaVonne Veatch
Goodman of Brookline, Massachusetts; Sheryle D. Atkins of Chenoa; and Patricia
G. Cole of Bellflower; one step-son, Merle Brandt of Munfordville, KY; one brother,
Eura of Onarga; 26 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by two brothers. Mr. Lee had lived in the Gibson City and Roberts areas
since 1941. He was a farmer for many years retiring in 1990. He attended the Church

Orville A. Leenerman, 86, of Charleston, formerly of Gibson City, a retired farmer,
died at noon Wednesday 1-15-1986 at Hilltop Convalescent Center, Charleston.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, Charles
Riggs will officiate. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City.
Visitation will be from 12:30 - 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Leenerman
was born 12-8-1899 at Guthrie, a son of Herman and Lena Rosenaur Leenerman.
He married Stella Hancock on 5-6-1923 at Gibson City. She died 11-26-1975.
Survivors include one brother, Virgil H., Oak Lawn; and two sisters, Alice L.
Murry, Charleston and Erma M. Smith, Manchester, TN. Three sisters preceded
him in death. Mr. Leenerman farmed in the Guthrie - Gibson City area until he
retired. He had lived in Charleston for 2-1/2 years.
Mrs. Stella Leenerman, 79, Gibson City, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday 11-26-1975
at the Gibson Community Hospital. Her funeral was held Saturday at the Lamb
Funeral Home, the Rev. Don Jones officiating. Burial was in the Gibson City
Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ralph Dueringer, V.B. Ernst, Russell Brandt, Gino
Ferri, Warren Brown, and John Johnson. Mrs. Leenerman was born 6-23-1896
in Downs Twp, a daughter of Cornelius and Alletta Fuller Hancock. She married
Orville Leenerman in 1923. She moved to Gibson City form Sibley 4 years ago.
Surviving are her husband and a sister, Mrs. Mae Neirstheimer, Gibson City.

Charles W. Leffler, age 71 of Gibson City died at 9:11 p.m. Tuesday 12-12-1995
at Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m.

Mr. Leffler was born 3-22-1924 near Arcola a son of Harry and Amelia Schwipps
Leffler. He married Betty Jordan on 9-18-1948 at Gibson City. Survivors include
his wife, Betty K. Leffler of Gibson City; one son, David Leffler of Gibson City;
two daughters, Kathy Doxey and Paula Johnson, both of Champaign; three
grandchildren, Nikki Leffler of Gibson City and Kari and Heather Doxey of
Champaign; one step-grandson, Thad Quinley of Chicago; four sisters, Marge
Clark of Saybrook, LaVern Sullivan of Seymour, Mildred Pankau of Champaign
and Gladys Drollinger of Rantoul; and one brother Ralph Leffler of Champaign.
Mr. Leffler was a member of the United Methodist Church of Gibson City and a
28-year member of the Moose Lodge in Rantoul. He grew up in Bellflower and
actively farmed in the rural Gibson City area since 1948. Memorials can be made to

James F. Leisure, 73, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday 5-14-1980 at Gibson Community
Hospital, Gibson City. His funeral was a 3 p.m. Friday at Lamb Funeral Home, Dr.

Steve Musgrave, James Musgrave, George Jones, Larry Leisure, Barry Leisure,
and Billy Douglas. Mr. Leisure was born 1-24-1907 in Beda, KY. a son of
Virgil and Betty Nimmo Leisure. He married June Thomas on 6-25-1937 in
Shawneetown. She survives. Also surviving are five sons, Robert, Raymond and
Carroll all of Gibson City; Richard, St. Joseph; and John, Foosland; a daughter,
Betty Tynan, Bloomington; a brother Henry, Harristown; 15 grandchildren; and
two step-grandsons. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr.
Leisure worked for several years in the coal mines in KY. He came to Illinois
in 1939 and had been aresident of Gibson City since 1944. In 1965, he retired
as a driver for M.C. Slater Co. of St. Louis. He then drove the No 1 school bus
for Gibson City Community Unit District for seven years, retiring in 1972. He was a
member of Teamsters Local #26. Memorials may be made to the Methodist
Church or Gibson Community Hospital.
June Leisure, age 75 of Gibson City died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday, 4-6-1997 at her
residence in Gibson City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday,
at the United Methodist Church in Gibson City with the Reverend Al Schneck
officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery in Gibson City. Visitation
will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City
and for one hour before the services at the church on Thursday. Mrs. Leisure
was born 6-17-1921 at Cambria a daughter of Luther and Nancy Jane Lindsey
Thomas. She married James F. Leisure on 6-25-1937 at Shawneetown. He
died 5-14-1980. Survivors include five sons, Robert Leisure of Gibson City;
Raymond Leisure of Gibson City; Carroll Leisure of Newport, Oregon; Richard
Leisure of St. Joseph and John Leisure of Gibson City; one daughter, Betty
Tynan of Bloomington; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews; one sister, Verna Morgan of Herrin; one niece, Wanda Whitmer
of Sacramento, KY with whom June was raised as a sister; five daughters-in-law,
Carol Ann Leisure, Royce Ann Leisure, Barbara Leisure, Bobbie Leisure, and
Judy Leisure and one son-in-law, Richard Tynan. She was preceded in death
by three sisters, three brothers and three great-grandsons. Mrs. Leisure was an
active member of the United Methodist Church in Gibson City serving as a teacher
and officer of the Friendship Class, head of the Communion Committee for several
years and a volunteer in the church office. She loved to travel with her close
friends and voluntarily helped anyone in any way she could. Memorials may be made
to her church or to the Carle Hospice Unit of Gibson City.
The graveside funeral of Dustin Wade Leisure will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Drummer
Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. The Rev. Randall K. Perry will officiate. There will be

Dustin died at 4:10 a.m. Monday 9-4-1989 at Mercy Hospital, Urbana. He was
born 8-22-1989 in Urbana, a son of Michael J. Wilkins, Portage, Wis. and Joyce A.
Leisure, Gibson City. They survive. Other survivors include a brother,
Christopher Wilkins, Gibson City; maternal grandparents, Carroll and Barbara
Leisure, Gibson City; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Una Anderson, Sandoval,
and Donald and Myrtle Wilkins, Salem; maternal great-grandmother, June Leisure,
Gibson City; and paternal great-grandmother, Ida Wilkins, Salem. Memorials may be

Phyllis E. Leonard, age 74 of Gibson City died at 1:40 p.m. Friday 7-13-2001 at
Gibson Area Hospital in Gibson City. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday at the
American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibson City with the Reverend Wayne
Shelksohn officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation
was from 5 - 8 p.m. July 15 at the Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City and for one
hour before the services on Monday at the church. Honorary pallbearers were
Franklin Butler, Bud Barnes and Don Hiner. Active pallbearers were Steve Kirkpatrick,
Tom Barnes, Tim Barnes, Ken Leonard, Bill Kerchenfaut and Wayne Apperson.
Mrs. Leonard was born 8-16-1926 at Sibley, a daughter of George and Ida Brethorst
Pretzlaff. She married Stanley E. Leonard on 11-30-1946 at Gibson City and he
survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Debra (Mary) Carr of Conyers, GA.,
Vicki (Gail) Reiners of Gibson City and Jodi (Craig) Patton of Springfield; three
sisters, Norene Kirkpatrick of LeRoy, Barbara Marshall of Danvers and Judy
Marshall of Champaign; her mother, Ida Pretzlaff of Gibson City; and eight
grandchildren, Chris and Katie Carr, Jennifer and Michael Reiners and Drew, Stephanie,
Ben and Nick Patton. She was preceded in death by her father. Mrs. Leonard
worked at the Gibson Area Hospital in Gibson City as a nurses aide in the OB
Dept for over 25 years. She was a member of the American Evanagelical Lutheran
Church in Gibson City and the Blackford Club.
John L. Leonard died in Chicago, Il. where he had gone seeking treatment of
stomach cancer. After marriage, they moved to the South Union neighborhood.
After seven years they went to Nebraska, returning after four years to Metamore, Il.,
and finally settled near Gibson City in 1896. In 1907 they moved into town.
Survived by his wife, Mary E. Parminter Leonard and the following children:

Kenneth E. of Chicago; Mildred, Gerald and Ruth at home. Also, he is

Ruth M. Lewis, age 60, a life-long resident of the Gibson City area, died at 9:15 p.m.
Monday 3-4-1991 at Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Her funeral was held at
10:30 a.m. Friday at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, the Reverend Patrick Cox
officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation was
from 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Ron Verdeyen,
Melvin Verdeyen, George Loveless, Joe Nunnink, Charles Miller and Harvard Shell.
Mrs. Lewis was born 3-10-1930 near Gibson City, a daughter of Harry and Bessie
Hoye Wolfe. She married Warren M. Lewis on 5-11-1948 in Paxton and he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Melvin of Sibley; one daughter, Pam Verdeyen,
Loveland, Colorado; a brother Virgil Wolfe, Peoria; two sisters, Mildred Shell,
Mission, TX; and Pat Howard of Beaumont, TX; seven grandchildren and one
great-grandson. Her parents, one brother and two sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Lewis was a member of the United Methodist Church, Gibson City. Memorials

The funeral for Tony Lewis, 98, of Rochester, Ind., formerly of Gibson City, will
be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, the Rev. Clarence

Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Lewis died at
8:45 p.m. Tuesday 6-23-1987 at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, Culver, Ind.
He was born 8-8-1888 in the Azores Islands, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Luiz.
He married Pearl Burns 8-4-1916 at Paxton. She died in 1938. Survivors
include a son, Ivan Lewis, Lambertsville, NJ; a daughter, Velma Byerline,
Rochester, Ind.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-
great-grandchild. An infant daughter preceded him in death. Mr. Lewis moved to
California in 1906 and to Gibson City in 1916, where he served as grade school
janitor for many years. He moved to Rochester, Ind. in 1978.
Vada S. Lewis, 91, formerly of Gibson City died at 9:40 p.m. Saturday 6-25-1988
at Jackson Heights Nursing Home, Farmer City, where she had been a resident
for the past two yearas. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lamb Funeral
Home, Gibson City, the Rev. Clarence Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Drummer
Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. today at the
funeral home. Mrs. Lewis was born 9-27-1896 in West Liberty, KY., a daughter
of Frank and Sarah Lewis Smith. She married Kelly F. Lewis on 8-1-1914 in West
Liberty. He died 7-9-1976. Surviving are two daughters, Marjorie Ellegard,
Rantoul; and Dorothy Thompson, Monticello; one brother, Arlie Smith, Rankin;
one sister, Velta Schlickman, Gibson City; four grandchildren and 10 great-
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and one daughter. Mrs.
Lewis was a resident of the Melvin - Sibley - Gibson City area for more than
` 70 years. She was a charter member of the Community Christian Church, Gibson
City, where she served as a deaconess and worker for many years. She was a member
of the Drummer Chapter of the OES of Gibson City and Christian Women's
Fellowship, Gibson City.
Graveside services for Laura L. Lindauer, 94, of Paxton, formerly of Gibosn City
will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. The Rev.

Funeral Home, Gibson City. Mrs. Lindauer died at 8:28 p.m. Wednesday
12-9-1998 at the Ford County Nursing Home, Paxton. She was born 11-29-1904 in
Livingston County, a daughter of Mathias and Anna Kafer. She married Walter
E. Petersen on 8-25-1927 at Jacksonville. He died 12-12-1957. She married Charles
Lindauer in 1959. He died in 1975. Survivors include a son, Ray "Pete" Petersen
of Gibson City; a daughter, Norma Newsome of Alexandria, Va; seven grandchildren;
11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Bowen; and two brothers, William Kafer
and Henry Kafer. She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Mrs. Lindauer lived in the Gibson City and Paxton area most of her life. She
worked at the Fashion Shop in Gibson City for many years. She also worked at
the Paxton Community Hospital. She was a member of the United Methodist Church

The funeral of Gary R. Lindsey, age 42 of Kingman, AZ, formerly of Gibson City
was at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City. The Reverend
Dan Hill officiated with burial in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation
was from 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers included Rick
Tomlinson, Danny Tomlinson, Bobby Case, Ron Carpenter, Dan Boyd and Denny
Houser. Mr. Lindsey was pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m. Sunday 7-10-1994 after a
pedestrian - auto accident on State Route 68 in Mohave County, AZ, east of
Kingman. State police said Mr. Lindsey was apparently walking in the middle of the
highway when he was struck by an automobile. He was born 11-1-1951 at
Loudon, TN, a son of Roy E. and Viola L. Leffew Lindsey. Survivors include
his mother of Gibson City; one daughter, Amy Lindsey of Gibson City; one son,
Joshua Lindsey of Gibson City; one sister, Brenda Baker of Normal; and two
brothers, Al Lindsey of Pontiac and Ronnie Lindsey of Lake Havasu City, AZ.
His father preceded him in death. Mr. Lindsey, who was a masonry worker, was
a member of Corinth Baptist Church, Loudon, TN. He moved to AZ five years ago.

M. Genevieve Little, 78, of Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Gibson City, died
Saturday 4-8-1995 at the Life Care Center, Overland Park, Kan. Her funeral will be

was born 8-12-1916 in Gibson City, the daughter of Harry and Ethel Goodrich
Shirley. She is survived by one son, Ernest G. Little, Colorado Springs, Colo.;
four daughters, Janet Miller, Louisville, Ky.; Rozanna Vice, Houston, TX.;
Chrystie Keenan, Mayesville,KY.; and Connie Little, Lake Waukomis, MO.; five
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one
daughter. Mrs. Little also lived in Boswell, Ind. and Mission, TX before moving
to the Kansas City area. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Mission

Gertrude O. Little, 99, Alameda, Calif., formerly of Sibley, died 11-21-1991 at

Mrs. Little was born 10-15-1892, in Sweden. Her husband, Harry Glen Little

Oscar R. Long, 94, of Gibson City died at 8:27 p.m. Saturday 12-25-1999 at

Clara Crawford, both of Villa Grove. He was preceded in death by his son,

and the Dog N Suds. He also owned a motel in Gibson City. Mr. Long was a

Charles William "Bill" Long, age 67 of Gibson City died Thursday 10-22-1998 at
Newton, Iowa. Memorial services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, at the
First Christian Church in Gibson City with the Reverend Rebecca Zelensky
officiating. Visitation was held immediately following the service at the church.

Mr. Long was born 2-10-1931 at Villa Grove a son of Oscar R. and Shirley M.
Shunk Long. He married Karen A. Knapp on 5-29-1960 at Gibson City.

and Shirley Long of Gibson City; one son, Dan (Kelly) Long of Rantoul; two
daughters, Nan (David) Clements of Gibson City and Carrie (Todd) Stensrud of
Glenwood, MN. and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son,
Patrick Long. Mr. Long worked at the Gibson Community Hospital until retiring
in 1992. A member of the First Christian Church of Gibson City, Mr. Long was
also a member of the Gibson City Masonic Lodge, Bloomington Consistory, The

Charles Patrick Long, age 33 of Gibson City died at 1:23 p.m. Saturday 12-16-1995
at his home in Gibson City. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church

Dan Long of Rantoul; his maternal grandmother, Marion Knapp of Gibson City

preceded in death by his maternal grandfather. Mr. Long was a resident of Gibson
City for all of his life. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Gibson
City and was a 1980 graduate of Gibson City High School. He was employed

Ruth M. Loy, age 101 of Gibson City died at 7:15 p.m. Sunday 1-9-2000 at Gibson

Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be from

of the arrangements. Mrs. Loy was born 5-30-1898 at Lacrosse, Ind. a daughter
of Ryan and Martha Junker Klatt. She married William Loy on 6-26-1928 at Washburn.
He preceded her in death on 1-23-1966. Survivors include one son, William M. Loy
of Slatington, PA; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded
in death by her parents and one sister. Mrs. Loy was a member of the First
Christian Church in Washburn and Gibson City since 1912. She was a graduate of
Bradley Polytechnic Institute, now known as Bradley University. Mrs. Loy
taught one year in Medicine Lodge, Kansas before coming to Gibson City where
she taught home economics from 1920 - 1931 at Drummer Twp High School. She
was also a member of the CFW/Christian Women's Fellowship. Memorials may

Zabel Wissmiller. She married the Rev. Raymond M. Luedde on 8-23-1943 at
Gibson City. He died 9-10-1970. Survivors include a son, Arnold L. Luedde of
Camdenton, Mo.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother,
Clarence Wissmiller of Henry. Mrs. Luedde was a homemaker. She resided at
Gibson City since 1943. She attended Brown's Business College at Bloomington
for two years. She was a member of the Community Christian Church at Gibson

Margaret Lutterbie, Gibson City, who was stillborn at 4:06 a.m. Tuesday 2-19-1985

Francis W. Lynch, 69, died at 11:47 p.m. Sunday 11-11-1984 at Mercy Hospital,
Urbana. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic
Church, Gibson City, the Rev. William Smith officiating. Burial will be in Drummer
Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. tonight at Lamb
Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Mr. Lynch was born
6-3-1915 in Strawn, a son of Edward J. and Elizabeth J. Somers Lynch. He married
Helen V. Wright 11-7-1945 in Gibson City. She died 3-30-1984. Survivors include
three sons, William L., Decatur, Ind.; and Gerald E. and Patrick J., both of Gibson
City; three brothers, Thomas, Forrest; John, Decatur; and Gerald A., Gibson City;
two sisters, Ethel Lorig, Colfax; and Thelma Lynch, Gibson City; seven grand-
children; and a great-granddaughter. Mr. Lynch was a retired 41-year-employee
of Central Soya. For 34 years, he was superintendent of the feed mill and for
the last seven years of employment, he was plant manager of their plant in
Moberly, Mo. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, he
was a Third Degree Knights of Columbus and a member of Knights of Columbus
Council 7372. Memorials may be made to the church or to the American Diabetes
Association.
Helen V. Lynch, 66, died Friday 3-30-1984, Gibson Community Hospital.
Funeral services were at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the Rev. William
Smith officiating. She was born 8-3-1917 at Garber, Il., a daughter of Sander
and Stella Westfall Wright. She married Francis Lynch 11-10-1945 at Gibson
City and he survives. Also surviving are three sons, William, Decatur, Ind.;
Gerald and Patrick, Gibson City; a brother Frank Wright, Milan Ind.; two sisters,
Alice Miller, Gibson City and Florence Cagle, Fisher; seven grandchildren; and
a great-granddaughter.
In early life she was found to be afflicted, being neither able to hear or speak. She
spent time in school at Jacksonville, Il. She was from a family of ten children:

Urbana. His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic
Church, Gibson City, the Rev. William Smith officiating. Burial will be in Drummer
Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. tonight at Lamb
Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Mr. Lynch was born
6-3-1915 in Strawn, a son of Edward J. and Elizabeth J. Somers Lynch. He married
Helen V. Wright 11-7-1945 in Gibson City. She died 3-30-1984. Survivors include
three sons, William L., Decatur, Ind.; and Gerald E. and Patrick J., both of Gibson
City; three brothers, Thomas, Forrest; John, Decatur; and Gerald A., Gibson City;
two sisters, Ethel Lorig, Colfax; and Thelma Lynch, Gibson City; seven grand-
children; and a great-granddaughter. Mr. Lynch was a retired 41-year-employee
of Central Soya. For 34 years, he was superintendent of the feed mill and for
the last seven years of employment, he was plant manager of their plant in
Moberly, Mo. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, he
was a Third Degree Knights of Columbus and a member of Knights of Columbus
Council 7372. Memorials may be made to the church or to the American Diabetes
Association.
Helen V. Lynch, 66, died Friday 3-30-1984, Gibson Community Hospital.
Funeral services were at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the Rev. William
Smith officiating. She was born 8-3-1917 at Garber, Il., a daughter of Sander
and Stella Westfall Wright. She married Francis Lynch 11-10-1945 at Gibson
City and he survives. Also surviving are three sons, William, Decatur, Ind.;
Gerald and Patrick, Gibson City; a brother Frank Wright, Milan Ind.; two sisters,
Alice Miller, Gibson City and Florence Cagle, Fisher; seven grandchildren; and
a great-granddaughter.
Mercedes B. LaCharity, 91 of Bethesda, MD. formerly of Gibson City died at 12:55 a.m.
Sunday 6-17-2001 at her home. Her graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at
Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City, the Rev. Randall Robinson officiating.
There will be no visitation. Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, is in charge of
arrangements. Memorials may be made to an organization of the donor's choice.
Mrs. LaCharity was born 1-5-1910 at Gibson City, a daughter of William Cullen
and Henrietta Barrow Bryant. She married William J. LaCharity in 1960. He died
5-16-1997. Survivors include one daughter, Sandra J. LaCharity, LaVista, Neb.; one
granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.
Lawrence J. LaCharity, age 91 of Bethesda, MD, died at 2 p.m. Friday 5-16-1997 at
his home in Bethesda, MD. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, 5-22-1997
at Drummer Twp Cemetery in Gibson City with Father James Heramb officiating.
Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery. Mr. LaCharity was born 1-10-1906
at Ashland, Wis., a son of Joseph and Selma Gustafson LaCharity. He married
Mercedes Bryant in 1937 and she survives. Other survivors include one daughter,
Sandra J. LaCharity of LaVista, Neb; one granddaughter, Kathryn L. (Jack)
Shelton and three great-grandchildren, Valerie, Robin and April Shelton. Mr.
LaCharity was a self-employed court reporter in Washington DC. Memorials may

Vernal L. Lahr, age 84 of Gibson City died at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday 2-25-1998
at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Gibson City. Funeral services were held
at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City with the Reverend
Stephen Schwanke officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City.
Visitation was from 5 - 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Honorary pallbearers
were Wayne Shields, Harold Tribbey and Wilbert Birky. Serving as pallbearers were
Josh D. Lahr, Jeffrey W. Lahr, Sean P. Cunningham, David Bright, Jack Miller and
Roger Birky. Mr. Lahr was born 4-30-1913 at Colome, SD, a son of Harrison B.
and Ina Shields Lahr. He married LaVerne Bossingham on 2-12-1939 at Stanford.
Survivors include his spouse, LaVerne Lahr of Gibson City; two daughters,
Elaine M. (Gene) Cunningham of Minonk; Terry Luanne (Patrick) Wingate of
Omaha, Neb.; one son, Donald W. (Aneita) Lahr of Foosland; five grandchildren,
Sean Cunningham, Josh D. Lahr, Jeffrey W. Lahr, Katelyn Wingate and Jacob
Wingate; two sisters, Viola Brandt of Atlanta and Harriet Klehm of Pontiac. He was
preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Mr. Lahr farmed in the rural
Foosland area for 47 years and moved to Gibson City in 1991. He was a member
of the Methodist Church in Foosland and recently attended the Prairie Baptist Church
in Gibson City. He was a past member of the Gibson City School Board and was
a past member of the Farm Bureau. Memorials may be made to an organization

Virginia Love Lamb, age 82 of Gibson City died at 3:55 a.m. Thursday 3-23-1995
at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Gibson City. A graveside service was at
11 a.m. Saturday at Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City with the Reverend
William J. Tammen officiating. There was no visitation. Pallbearers included
Terry Eckhardt, Adolph May, Terry McRae, Earl Young, Tom Hunt and Gary
Lutterbie. Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Lamb was born 3-8-1913 at Gibson City, a daughter of Arthur C. and Mildred
Shaver Love. She married Arthur Morrell on 10-26-1933 at Colorado Springs,
Colorado. He died 12-4-1968. She married Wallace S. Lamb on 5-28-1971 at
Urbana. He died 6-19-1991. Surviving is one brother, John Love of Denver,
Colorado. One son and one brother preceded her in death. Mrs. Lamb was a
member of the Gibson Community Hospital Auxiliary and a former member of the
Gibson City Library board. She had been a resident of Gibson City since 1971.
Memorials may be made to the Gibson City Swimming Pool or to the William
Moyer Library, both in Gibson City.
Cleo Lamb, 85, died at 1:25 p.m. Thursday 12-23-1977 at the Gibson Community
Hospital Annex. Her funeral was Saturday at the Lamb Funeral Home, the Rev.
Louis Haase officiating. Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery. Pallbearers were
Bill Middleton, Frank Hunt III, Floyde Walker, Jim Hager, Dick Walter and Bill
Noble. Mrs. Lamb was born 8-20-1892 in Gibson City, a daughter of Ami
and Almeda Weimer Spradling. She married Shumway Lamb 1-30-1916 at Paxton.
Mr. Lamb operated the Lamb Funeral Home for a number of years before his
death in 1960. Surviving are a son Wally, Gibson City and five grandchildren. Mrs.
Lamb was preceded in death by one son, Jack, three sisters and one brother. She
was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was a life-time resident of
Gibson City.
The funeral of Dorothy M. "Pat" Lambert, 80, of Gibson City will be at 2:30 p.m.
Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, Gibson City, the Rev. Dick Cates and the
Rev. Ed Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City.

an hour before services Wednesday at the church. She died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday
2-28-1988 at Gibson Community Hospital, Gibson City. She was born 2-21-1928
in Kankakee, a daughter of Charles and Vergie Cleary Benjamin. She married
Wayne Lambert on 4-28-1946 in Kankakee. The later divorced. Surviving
are her companion of 30 years, Karry Kestner, Gibson City; a son, Harry Lambert
of Gibson City; five daughters, Patti Schoolcraft of Elliott; Donna Schoolcraft
and Lil Deason, both of Gibson City; Fannie Lambert of Champaign; Anita Cotton
of Urbana; a brother, Robert Benjamin of Kankakee; a sister Joanne Erickson
of Gibson City; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Her parents, three sons,
a daughter and a sister and a brother preceded her in death. Mrs. Lambert was a
resident of Gibson City since 1952 and worked for the Electronic Corp. of
Gibson City. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gibson City.

Eau Claire, Wisc. - Mary Lou Lovvik, 63, of Eau Claire, Wisc., formerly of Paxton
died Wednesday 1-22-2003 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Rochester, Minn. Services are
pending. She was born in Paxton 2-3-1939 a daughter of John and Ruth Hanson. She
married Merrill Lovvik. He survives. Also surviving are two sons, Kevin Lovvik and
Paul Lovvik, borh of Eau Claire; two grandchildren; two brothers, John Hanson of
Neillsville, Wisc., and Charles Hanson of Paxton; and two sisters, Lois Frette and Alice
Abrahamson, both of Paxton. She had been employed as a nurse at Luther Health Care
Systerm, Eau Claire.
Sibley - Emma M. Luy, 96, of Sibley, formerly of Decatur, died at 9:55 p.m.
Wednesday 1-22-2003 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Gibson City. Her funeral
was at 2 p.m. Sunday at Star Hope Mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery, Decatur. Burial
was in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation was from 1 - 2 p.m. Sunday at the
mausoleum. Lamb Funeral Home, Gibson City, was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Luy was born 1-10-1907 at Garbenheim, Germany, a daughter of Frederick
and Katerina Mohr Bierau. She married Wilhelm Luy on 1-10-1930 at Garbenheim.
He died 11-26-1985. Surviving are two daughters, Marlid (John) Burkhart of Sibley,
and Gerda Hecker of Decatur; one sister. Lanue Uhl of Asslar, Germany; eight
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. One son,
three brothers, eight sisters, and two granddaughters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Luy moved to Decatur in 1956 from Germany. She had recently moved to
Sibley. She was a member of the German Club and DUNK.
Sandra J. LaCharity, age 66 of LaVista, Nebraska, formerly of Gibson City died at
2:02 p.m. Thursday 5-9-2002 at Midlands Community Hospital in Papillion, Neb.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday May 15 at Drummer Twp Cemetery in
Gibson City with the Reverend Kathleen Reichmann officiating. Burial was in
Drummer Twp Cemetery, Gibson City. Visitation was from 1 - 2 p.m. May 15 at
the funeral home. Ms. LaCharity was born 3-10-1936 at Paxton, a daughter of
Lawrence J. and Mercedes B. Bryant LaCharity. Survivors include one daughter,
Kathryn L. (Jack) Shelton of Davenport, IA and three grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her parents. Ms. LaCharity resided in Nebraska for the past
31 years. Prior to that time, she resided in Gibson City. She was a case worker
for the Dept of Human Services for many years.
Roger Dale Latham, age 50 of Elliott, died at 7:12 a.m. Wednesday 8-28-2002 at
Carle Fundation Hospital in Urbana. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. August 30 at
Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City with the Reverend Randall Robinson officiating.
Burial was in Drummer Twp Cemetery in Gibson City where military rites wre provided
by Lee Lowery American Legion Post 568 in Gibson City. Visitation was from 5 - 8 p.m.
August 29 at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Scottie Latham, Kevin Latham, Jessie
Latham, Chris Latham, Joey Latham, Stevey Latham and Marchall Blake. Mr. Latham
was born 1-7-1952 at Frankfort, KY a son of Henry and Lucille Travis Latham. He
married Cyndy S. Crowell on 4-7-1982 at Lincoln and she survives. Also surviving
are his father, Henry Latham of Elton, KY; his mother Lucille Bolin of Clinton; two sons,
Greg Latham of New Orleans, LA and Derek Latham of Farmer City; seven daughters,
Dawn (Kyle) Sigler of Farmer City, Tiffany Latham of Elliott, Roxanne Latham of Champaign,
Debra Latham, Lisa Latham, Kimberly Latham and Rebeca Latham all of Elliott; four
grandchildren, Tyler Sigler, Jacob Latham, Alyssa Latham and Natalie Koester; one
brother, Darrell Latham of Homer and one sister, Susie Welch of Clinton. Mr.
Latham worked at Baltimore Aircoil Co., Inc. in Paxton as a welder, where he had been
employed for one year. A former resident of LeRoy, Mr. Latham moved to Elliott
three years ago. Mr. Latham was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed
his children and grandchildren. Memorials may be given to the family.
Milford (cns) - Ray Lyons, 75, of 109 E. Frederick, died at 9 P.M.,. Tuesday Sept. 29,
1970 at his residence. Wayne Knapp, Iroquois County Coroner, attributed death to a heart attack.
Born Oct. 25, 1895 , in Milford Township, he was the son of Charles W.
and Margaret Raines Lyons. He was married at Danville Dec. 24, 1924 , to
Hazel Newman.
He had a garage in Milford for many years before retiring in 1969. He
was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include his widow; a brother, William of Milford; and three
sisters, Mrs. Anna Boyd, Mrs. Mary Rush and Mrs. Louise Slife, all of
Milford. He as preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
Services will be at 2 P.M. Friday at the Barker Funeral home, with the
Rev. Roy William officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Creek Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be after 2 P.M. Thursday.

Lyons , 45, at the Young funeral home in Rossvile. The Rev. Ralph Small, pastor
of the Antioch church of Christ will officiate with burial in Bethel Cemetery
near Alvin. Mr. Lyons died at his home at 8963 San Antonio Ave, South Gate Calif.
, Monday Sept. 7, 1959. He was born July 23, 1914 in Alvin, the son of Guy and
Hazel Bunch Lyons. He was married to Virgina LeNeve, who survives. Other suvivors
include a daughter, Letty of South Gate; his mother Mrs. Hazel Lyons Casner
of Worthinton, Ind; two sisters Mrs. Norma Rife and Mrs. Wanda Merle Hardy of

born June 3, 1901 near Kankakee to Mrs. and Mrs. Emile Saindon. She was married
on Sept. 12, 1920 in Bradley to Louis Laurent, who survives. Also surviving
are three sisters, Mrs. Agnes Klenzak of Kankakee, Mrs. Rose Couture of Kankakee
and Mrs. Hazel Case of Bourbonnais. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday
at the St. Peter Catholic Church in Clifton. The Rev. John Noval will officiate.

BEAVERVILLE - Harvey Laurent, 61, RR 4 Watseka, died at 5 a.m. Sunday
at Riverside Medical Center after an extended illness. Mr. Laurent was born
Sep 23, 1916, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Laurent of St. Anne. His parents
survive. He was married on Jan 21, 1939 at Beaverville to Anita Marquis who
also survives. Mr. Laurent farmed in the St. Anne and Donovan areas all his
life. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church at Beaverville and the Holy
Name Society of St. Mary's. Other survivors include a son, Jerry of Watseka;
daughters, Mrs. Janet Koester of Crescent City, Mrs. Sue Seggebruch of Watseka,
Mrs. Cheryle Brammer of rural Donovan and Carol at home; 11 grandchildren; brothers,
Harry of Martinton, Elwood and Elmer of St. Anne; sisters, Mrs. Elsie Toune
of Watseka and Mrs. Darlene Peerbolt of Martinton. Funeral mass will be celebrated
at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church by the Rev. Eugene Sullivan. Visitation will
be after 4 p.m. today at DeValk Funeral Home in Watseka with an 8 p.m. rosary.

CLIFTON - Maurice "Telemo" Laurent, 62, Clifton, former
owner of Laurent Machine Shop, died at 3 a.m. today at Interstate Hospital.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Emile Laurent, he was born May 2, 1912 in Clifton. He
was married there Nov. 14, 1931 to the former Edith Boudreau who survives. Also
surviving are daughter Mrs. Mary Ann Logue of Mattoon; 11 grandchildren; and
sisters Mrs. Wesley Doyle of Clifton. Mr. Laurent was a member of St. Peter
Catholic Church, Watseka Elks Lodge 1791 and Watseka Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 7450. The Rev. John Novak will recite a funeral mass at 10 a.m. Saturday
at St. Peter Church. Burial will be in Clifton Cemetery. There will be visitation
after 4 p.m. Friday at the Knapp Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited
at 8 p.m. A memorial has been established in his name for Interstate Hospital.

CLIFTON - Virginia Laurent, 90, died at 11:15 a.m. Thursday at the
Fontanbleu Nursing Center in Kankakee. Mrs. Laurent was born on June 24, 1887,
in Clifton, the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Louis Collette Jr. She married Dezerie
Laurent at Clifton on Dec. 27, 1915. He preceded her in death on May 24, 1964.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral mass will be read at 10 a.m.
Saturday at St. Peter Catholic Church at Clifton. The Rev. John Novak will officiate.

Mr. Laurent was born May 25, 1897, in Clifton to Mr. and Mrs. Tousfaint Laurent.
He married Eva Thonette Sep. 12, 1920 in Bradley. Surviving are two brothers,
Leon of Clifton and Alfred of St. Anne, and a sister, Nellie Brueggert of Kankakee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Services will be at 10
a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clifton. Burial will be in

was born Jan. 5, 1892 in L'Erable to Nestor and Clementine Genotte Nakaerts.
She married Leon Laurent on Aug. 14, 1920 in L'Erable. He died Sep. 3, 1978.

Raymond B. Laurent, 88, of Kankakee, died Saturday (May 18, 1991)
at St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, after a long illness. Visitation will be

funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin of Tours

late Benjamin and Rose West Laurent, he was born Dec. 12, 1902, in Clifton.
He married the former Loretta Fordyce June 19, 1924, at Saints Mary and Joseph
Catholic Church in Chebanse. She died April 16, 1990. Surviving are a daughter
and son-in-law, Mardell and Melvin Spivey of Kankakee; four grandchildren, Dheryl
Nourie of Normal and Linda Martin of South Milwaukee, Wis., Richard Spivey of
Madison, Wis. and Kevin Spivey of Manteno; 11 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law,
Myrtle Fordyce of Clifton. He was preceded in death by two sisters. Mr. Laurent
was a retired employee of the Kankakee division of the Roper Corp. A self-employed
carpenter, he had been associated with a number of construction projects. He
was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Kankakee.

MARCELLE R. LAURENT
CLIFTON - Marcelle R. Laurent, 67, of 450 E. First Ave., Clifton,
died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday at Central Community Hospital. He was born Dec. 23,
1913, in Clifton to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Laurent. He was married to the former
Martha Pfeifle Aug. 10, 1957, in Kankakee. He was a retired employee of Mortell
Corp., Kankakee. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the
Clifton American Legion Post. Survivors include his wife; one stepson, Wayne
Coyne of Ashkum; one stepdaughter, Patricia Peeler of Valparaiso, Ind.; five
grandchildren; and one sister Vialta Jensen of Clifton. Visitation will be 4-9
p.m. Thursday at Knapp Funeral Home. Legion rites will be at 7 p.m. and the
rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral
home with the Rev. Joseph Butters officiating. Burial will be in Clifton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in his name to the Hear Association.

LEON LAURENT
CLIFTON - Leon F. Laurent, 86, a lifelong resident of the Clifton
area, died at 7:45 a.m. Sunday at his home. Mr. Laurent was born March 5, 1892,
at Clifton to Mr. And Mrs. Tousfaint Laurent. He was married Aug. 24, 1920 at
L'Erable, to Emma Nakaerts, who survives. Mr. Laurent farmed in the Clifton
area all his life. Also surviving are a brother, Alfred of St. Anne; a sister,
Nellie Brueggert of Kankakee, and several nieces and nephews. Services were
conducted this morning at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clifton by the Rev.
John Novak. Burial was in Clifton Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday evening
at the Knapp Funeral Home.

NAYOMA LAURENT
St. ANNE - Nayoma Laurent, 88, of St. Anne, died Thursday at Central
Community Hospital, Clifton. She was born Nov. 25, 1893, in New Middletown,
Ind., to Mr. And Mrs. Lincoln Cotner. She was married to Alfred Laurent May
28, 1913, in Clifton. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church. Survivors
include her husband; three sons, Harry of Beaverville, and Elmer and Elwood
of St. Anne; two daughters, Elsie Toune of Clifton, and Darlene Peerbolte of
Martinton; 27 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren;
and two sisters, Anna Faherty of Arnold, Neb., and Lenora Byrns of Corydon,
Ind. One daughter, one son, one grandchild, three brothers and two sisters are
deceased. Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday at Houk Funeral Home with an 8
p.m. rosary service. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anne Catholic
Church with the Rev. William Anson officiating. Burial will be in the church
cemetery.
